Dixie Red Hills Golf Course

St. George, Utah, USASouthern Utah

Dixie Red Hills Golf Course in St. George, Utah, offers a challenging yet accessible 9-hole layout framed by iconic red rock formations. With multi-tiered greens, natural bunkers, and desert ruggedness, this public course suits golfers seeking a quick, scenic round amid dramatic scenery.

Course Overview

Dixie Red Hills Golf Course offers a distinctive golfing experience framed by the striking red rock formations that define southern Utah’s landscape. This 9-hole public course, located just outside St. George, invites players of all skill levels to engage with a layout that balances approachable design with subtle strategic challenges. The course’s compact scale encourages a brisk pace of play, making it ideal for a quick round or a practice session without sacrificing enjoyment.

The setting is the course’s defining feature. Each hole traces contours bordered by vivid sandstone cliffs and lush desert vegetation, creating striking contrasts that shift with the angle of sunlight. The natural terrain shapes fairways that bend thoughtfully around rock outcroppings and well-positioned bunkers, demanding accuracy and tactical consideration off the tee. Greens are multi-tiered and often grainy, slowing putts when played against the grain while rewarding thoughtful green reading.

Golfers will find the course both inviting and stimulating. The doglegs and elevation changes work together to test club selection and shot-making without overwhelming less experienced players. Careful placement can avoid trees and rocky hazards, emphasizing precision over brute distance. The general upkeep is noteworthy, with smooth fairways and well-maintained turf throughout the season.

Amenities include a modest clubhouse and access to a driving range, which, while tucked away, provides a valuable space for warm-up and short-game practice. The course is walkable, with cart rentals available to accommodate various preferences. Visitors should bring sturdy shoes suitable for rocky, occasionally uneven ground and prepare for typical desert conditions including dry air and occasional breezes that influence ball flight.

While not an 18-hole destination, Dixie Red Hills delivers a spirited and scenic round that rewards focus and respect for its rugged surroundings. It’s a go-to option for locals and travelers seeking a brief, memorable golf experience steeped in the dramatic character of Utah’s red rock country.

Hate how you get dismissed whenever you call in for a tee time…. Immediately get referred to the website (which isn’t user friendly) gonna have to stick with expensive sky mountain or random course sunbrook (they will book for you when you call)

Awesome golf course! First time playing here and just amazing views surrounded by red rock! I wish this was an 18 hole course.

This is going to be my go to place for a quick 9 from now on when I’m in St George. It’s a beautiful little course that has a challenging layout and greens. Putting into the grain is slow, but with the grain is like extremely quick. I love that kind of a challenge on the greens. Multi tiered greens, doglegs, well placed bunkers… makes it interesting. The conditions were great when I was there. From the tees to the greens, the turf was in excellent condition. Can’t wait to come back.

This is a neat little course with some great views and challenging holes. Too bad it’s not 18 holes. Also, the driving range access was not obvious to this first timer. I didn’t think there was one driving in. Pro guide tip/spoiler alert: if you go with a tee shot on hole three, 90 degree dogleg left, over the giant rock left (think Golden Tee) you’re in the trees (those insidious designers!) unless you hit a good fade for right handers; I found out the hard way. The course was in good shape in early spring 2025. We had cancelled our round-at the last minute-a few days earlier due to torrential rains. The counter man/starter actually advised us to reschedule due to course conditions with no financial penalty. Thank you sir! Definitely worth a quick round of nine. A cart speeds up play, but carrying or hand carting is not a problem. It’s not a ‘destination’ golf course; but I’ll be back! The setting is quite unique. Check out the view from the Elks club parking lot above the course.

Would love to give a 5 star review for the beautiful course! But honestly the customer service was a let down! Nice at first but here it is....... Already Sucks that they only allow 10min tee time in between people because thats way to little time.... Especially for people who want to go play for fun or learn! So because we let the people go ahead of us a few seconds... the girl (teenager) working at the counter, Zoey.... Came out power tripping and said we cant do that.... We do understand the rules of the place but was unnecessary to call us out on the intercom after she came outside and told us! We were excited to play on this beautiful course.... But completely ruined our experience right from the start.... In the end, we made it known to the Gentleman working at the counter, that our experience with "Zoey", which he said was her name....was very unpleasant and that her customer service needed work.... He didn't apologize, nor show any empathy towards the situation! I understand we might have been in the wrong since we havnt been hete before but i think that there could have been a better way to handle the situation instead if being rude!
