Jamestown Golf Course
Jamestown Golf Course is a public 9-hole track delivering a relaxed and approachable golf experience. With wide fairways, gentle greens, and scenic glimpses of the Newport Bridge, this course offers accessible play for golfers of varied skill levels.
Course Overview
Located on Conanicus Avenue in Jamestown, Rhode Island, Jamestown Golf Course offers a straightforward yet engaging golfing experience for players at all levels. This public 9-hole layout emphasizes accessibility and charm over complexity, making it an attractive option for locals and visitors looking for a relaxed round without the pressure of a championship test. The course unfolds across largely flat terrain, which allows for wide fairways and open sightlines, giving players the freedom to focus on shot execution. Though compact, the layout’s well-maintained fairways and greens present enough subtle challenges to keep the game interesting.
The scenery is a mix of modest natural character and carefully tended turf, with some holes edging close to views of the iconic Newport Bridge and surrounding farm fields. The ambiance is down-to-earth, highlighting easy enjoyment rather than dramatic elevation changes or treacherous hazards. One quirky feature often noted by visitors is the distinctive, unusual tree standing guard near the eighth tee, a point of local character that adds personality to the course.
Playability here leans toward the forgiving, making Jamestown a practical choice for beginners and high handicappers, while still offering a pleasant practice ground for more seasoned golfers. The putts roll true on gentle greens, and the wide fairways allow ample margin for less-than-perfect shots.
Though tee times are not taken, meaning early arrival is recommended to avoid wait times especially on weekends, the course's steady pace and friendly atmosphere reward those seeking an uncomplicated round. The clubhouse provides a comfortable space to pause for refreshments and reflect on the round.
Jamestown Golf Course stands out as a solid, approachable venue where the game’s essentials are laid out plainly and well. Its location near Newport and Providence makes it a convenient stop for golfers exploring Rhode Island. This course is best experienced with a flexible schedule and an appetite for a casual round that blends simple playability with authentic local charm.

It's a nice little course with some good views and reasonable conditions. As noted by many reviewers, they need to take tee times. It's not that difficult! The current system of grouchy starters directing play is just not workable. If you're looking to play 18 holes, expect to wait close to an hour between nines. If you play, check out the mutant tree behind the 8th tee (see photo)!

Such a fun course! Must play if you are in the area. Only 9 holes, sure you can play it twice, but go and have fun on the 9 and then have lunch, drinks in their nice club house also. Easy to get to from Newport, Providence or South County. Very forgiving course, wide open, and flat greens, nice views of a working farm, and the Newport Bridge (see photos) towers. I can’t wait to go back some day. Wives shop in Newport, and boys play some golf and then meet up for dinner/drink in Newport…now that’s a day! Enjoy it! (Note we played on a grey misty day, and we still had a blast)

This past Thursday my golf group was yelled at by staff two separate people at two separate times - 1) For taking too long in the checkout process (four golfers across two credit cards). This was at the window paying for our round. 2) On the 9th hole, we were yelled at for driving on the wrong side of a "carts this way" sign - literally inches on the wrong side and nowhere near the green or a hazard. The golf is great, the course is in good shape, but the staff seem to be very angry. One idea - add tee time online booking and eliminate the early AM stress on the staff. Additionally, 25 golfers arrived before 7am and only 16 were allowed out before the golf league. Just doesn't seem like the best golfer experience and it seems to be taking a toll on the staff.

Really can’t ask for a better 9 hole course than this. It has a beautiful view of the Pell Bridge and the fairways and greens are very well kept. This course is in excellent condition. It is first come first serve so expect it to be busy depending on which day you go and arrive a bit earlier to get in line, but they have a starter usually to keep good pace.

Tough to give a score on this one. On one side the course is great nine hole track nice conditions some good views and flows pretty decently. The only reason for 3/5 is the fact they don’t take tee times. You want to play here on a weekend you have to show up and wait in line for close to two hours. First come first serve is a ridiculous system for weekend golf. Just tell me when I can play and I’ll be there simple as that
