Costa Caribe Golf & Country Club

Ponce, Puerto RicoSouthern Puerto Rico

Costa Caribe Golf & Country Club delivers a tropical 18-hole private golf experience just outside Ponce, blending island scenery with a course layout that rewards precision and strategic play. While maintenance inconsistencies have been noted, the course offers a unique setting for those seeking a quieter, nature-rich round in southern Puerto Rico.

Course Overview

Costa Caribe Golf & Country Club, located just outside Ponce, Puerto Rico, offers an 18-hole private layout that reflects both the challenges and charms of tropical golf. The course combines a gently rolling terrain with natural features typical of the Caribbean climate, delivering a distinct playing experience framed by indigenous vegetation and glimpses of native wildlife. Although the grounds show signs of wear and upkeep challenges reported by recent players, the design itself offers moments where thoughtful strategy interacts with the island’s environment.

The course presents a blend of fairways that demand shot precision and greens guarded by bunkers and uneven contours. With a par that fits standard 18-hole configurations, the route challenges players with subtle elevation shifts and occasional winds that require controlled club selection. While fairways may vary in condition, the visual presence of tropical birds and flora adds a refreshing element to the round, allowing players to connect with nature as they navigate each hole.

Costa Caribe’s setting offers a quiet atmosphere, removed from the busier resort circuits on the island. The private nature of the club means access is by member invitation, which keeps play intimate but requires advance planning for visits. The clubhouse provides a straightforward home base with amenities suited for a casual golf day, though service levels have been noted as needing attention. Carts are available but walking is encouraged for those prepared for the tropical climate and course terrain.

This course may appeal most to golfers who appreciate a Caribbean backdrop and don’t mind adapting to maintenance variations. Those seeking to sharpen their course management and shot shaping in warm weather will find relevant challenges across the 18 holes. Planning early tee times can help mitigate tropical heat, and visitors should prepare for a traditional golf day with modest facilities rather than a full-service resort experience.

While Costa Caribe Golf & Country Club may not suit every golfer’s expectations, it holds a distinct place in Puerto Rico’s golf scene for its blend of island environment and straightforward course layout. Players curious about regional golf outside the main tourist hubs may find value here, especially with proper expectations.

Course Highlights

The course features broad fairways flanked by indigenous flora and native wildlife sightings such as tropical birds. The layout demands precise shot-making to navigate uneven greens and strategically placed bunkers. The tropical climate introduces variable winds that influence approach shots, while the private nature of the club ensures a quiet round away from crowded resort courses.

Played some bad courses in my time but this is the worst. Wish I could give this a negative star. Don't be fooled with the price. Most unkempt piece of crap I have played. Speaking of crap there was horse shit in some fairways and hoof marks on greens. Don't believe the photos. You have been warned.

Played on 5/27/25. One of the worst unkept courses Ive seen. Not maintained at all. Fairways are all hard compact dirt, greens have dead patches, and you can't tell which tee boxes are which. $124 for old clubs and a cart. Don't waste your money.

I like it. I am happy to see the mushrooms, white birds and a bear 🐻 cloud. Just bankers are not maintained with sand.

Worst golf course in the island. Can’t believe it is private. The practice putting green has not been maintained in years. Definitely a change in administration is needed or something. Nice layout. Just see the pictures.

Decent track, lackluster service, lackluster assessment on the course, no marshal, lack of golf carts, 6 players on holes, Advise range closed while seeing people on range. Paid parking Grill/ restaurant open at 12 Check in AT TEE TIME NOT BEFORE. As... " we are not strict over here" Tbh not terrible, but not great.

I played the scramble tournament on June 22nd, and honestly, the course conditions are unacceptable. Fairways? What are we talking about? They don't exist. You're basically hitting dirt. The grass in the backyards of nearby houses is a thousand times better than this course. Trying to hit iron shots or chip is mission impossible. The tees... be prepared to use a hammer to get one in. The greens, on the other hand, are Russian roulette: some are very slow, others are very fast, others you just can't even read. There's no consistency. The most frustrating thing is that this course holds scramble tournaments every month, and they're always full. How is it possible that a course with so much participation is in such terrible condition? It's embarrassing. The players deserve much more for their time and money. Costa Caribe has potential, but right now it's disrespectful to any golfer.
