Red Hawk Golf Club in Las Cruces offers an engaging desert golf experience with an 18-hole, par-72 layout featuring rolling hills, water hazards, and stunning views of the Organ Mountains. Its well-maintained fairways and challenging greens make it a rewarding course for players of varying skill levels.
Course Overview
Red Hawk Golf Club presents an 18-hole challenge set amid the striking desert terrain of Las Cruces, New Mexico. This public course skillfully weaves rugged natural features with carefully maintained fairways and greens, inviting golfers to engage with a layout that balances accessibility with strategic depth. The course stretches approximately 7,200 yards from the back tees, offering a par 72 experience that unfolds across gently rolling hills and arid desert foothills, punctuated by several artificial ponds that demand thoughtful navigation.
Players will find Red Hawk’s design rewarding for all skill levels. The relatively narrow fairways call for precise drives, yet generous landing zones at key points ease the pressure on mid-handicap golfers. Greens are fast and contoured, rewarding sound approach shots while testing putting touch. The 14th hole stands out as a memorable highlight, combining elevation changes and water hazards to create a measuring-stick test that encourages bold yet calculated play.
Scenery plays a significant role in the course’s appeal. Surrounded by the distant Organ Mountains, the landscape captures the desert’s raw character with native vegetation framing holes and providing natural hazards. Dry washes and sandy waste areas add texture and challenge without overwhelming the golfer. Cart paths are well maintained, enhancing movement across the course’s hilly terrain while enabling walkers to enjoy the serene environment.
Maintenance standards are notable, with crisp, green fairways that contrast vividly against the desert backdrop. Occasional course improvements are underway—though sometimes visible during play, they signal ongoing efforts to enhance the overall experience. The clubhouse provides a casual, welcoming atmosphere with a restaurant that offers solid fare to replenish after a round.
Visitors can expect courteous staff and a less crowded pace, making Red Hawk ideal for those seeking a desert golf adventure that is both scenic and thoughtfully crafted. Playing here delivers a satisfying blend of technical golf and environment, inviting repeated visits to fully appreciate the landscape and challenge.

Course is nice a green but they're modifying the course and there are bulldozers working literally up by the green when you're trying to play; workers don't take into consideration when you're on the green or approaching. Literally saw my friend's ball covered up with dirt on our approach. 🙄

This course is probably the best in the area. The fairways are lush and great to hit from. The greens are excellent and very challenging. There are some areas of ground under repair but it’s just because they are working to make the course even better. I will definitely make another trip to Las Cruces to play this course again.

A very nice and smart-designed course in the middle of desert 🏝️. Holes are built around few artificial ponds, the fairway is relatively narrow and hilly, but the route is very nicely connecting the 18 holes. Particularly the 14th hole, ⛳ will definitely want to play here more.
