Twisted Dune Golf Club

Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, USASouthern New Jersey

Twisted Dune Golf Club presents a striking links-style challenge along New Jersey’s coast, blending expansive fairways, tiered greens, and coastal winds over 7,200 yards of demanding golf. This public 18-hole layout offers a compelling test for players who relish strategic shot-making and the nuances of a true links environment.

Course Overview

Twisted Dune Golf Club, located in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, offers a true links-style golf experience that challenges and rewards players at every turn. This 18-hole public course stretches over 7,200 yards from the back tees, providing a demanding test for golfers who enjoy confronting the wind, uneven lies, and strategic shot-making that links golf requires. The layout emphasizes wide fairways flanked by long fescue rough and strategically placed waste areas, combining natural coastal elements with modern design to create a distinctive, open setting uncommon in New Jersey.

The course’s undulating greens, ranging from expansive tiers to narrower putting surfaces, invite careful reading and precise touch. Shots often come with visual illusions that affect depth perception and club choice, sharpening focus and rewarding thoughtful play. Water hazards and bunkers appear sparingly but with purpose, guarding key landing spots and adding pressure on risky approaches. Despite its length and challenges, Twisted Dune remains approachable for a broad spectrum of skill levels, though it particularly appeals to players seeking to test their shot control and course management.

Facility-wise, the club’s practice areas enable pre-round preparation or final warm-ups, while on-course amenities support a comfortable day in play. Walking is encouraged and feasible, though the terrain and length suggest golfers consider appropriate footwear and stamina for the round. The efficient layout and dual dirt cart paths along holes help maintain pace of play, estimating around five hours to complete. Staff members are generally welcoming, contributing to an inviting atmosphere despite some isolated service hiccups reported by guests.

Twisted Dune’s coastal landscape delivers refreshing sea breezes that influence ball flight, injecting an element of variability that transforms each round. The open exposure, native fescue, and natural sand areas reflect authentic links golf characteristics crafted for those who appreciate subtle challenges and the interplay between golf and environment. For golfers visiting southern New Jersey, Twisted Dune stands out as a memorable and formidable venue well worth the journey.

Love Twisted’s golf course, but the cart drop guy was a nightmare. We arrived at 11:00 am for a 12:30 pm tee time and he seemed extremely put off by how early we were there. He told us 3 times he didn’t have a cart for us even though we told him each time that was fine and we would walk our bags to the range. When our friends pulled in around 11:40 and said their tee time he said “oh, you’re with those guys..” I got my camera bag from my car and was walking with it to the cart he yelled “What’s in that bag?!” When I said a camera and a drone he rudely said “What, are you filming a movie?” I offered to open the bag and he said no. At the end of the round we pulled our bags off and took them to the car and I drove around to the cart return. Same guy. He grabbed his towel to clean our clubs and I said “no thanks, we already got them off.” He said “well, I can’t clean them if you take them off the cart!!” We enjoyed our day, but he was a huge negative. Find a different line of work.

Awesome course… I rate this a one star because of one person who ruined my experience. Staff is amazing besides one person named Jim. Complete toolbox and cares more about the verticalness on my New Jersey ID. I’m 21 and have been to bars and other places requiring government scanners. Jim almost threw me and my family at because of the ID and because my brother had one of my beers on his side of the cart. I would play again but that guy is something else as well.

Twisted Dune was tougher than I expected, but once I found my rhythm, it turned into a really fun round. The course is beautiful, with a true links-style layout and great conditions. We had a minor issue early on with a ranger concerned about pace of play, though we were actually being held up by a slower group ahead—no big deal. The rest of the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I’d heard the greens were lightning fast, but they rolled reasonably—definitely slower than most private tracks I’ve played. For the price and location, it’s a great value. I’d definitely play here again.

Twisted Dunes is hard! Excellent and extremely challenging design. This may be one of the most difficult golf courses I ever played. Tricks of the eye make approaches and tee shots intimidating. Sometimes expansive tiered greens and narrow to wide angle plays made every shot a true challenge. Also, it’s a little long: some par 4’s from the whites even with a great drive result in a long iron onto the green and some par 3’s may be out of reach for some who play from the whites. The facilities were much better than other reviews reported. I brought my own drinks but I didn’t have to. Cart girl. Dirt paths on both sides of each hole makes the wide fairways easier to deal with and play goes faster, but still allow 5 hours to play. Long fescue areas, plenty of water to hit over, and waste areas. Great mix. Most traps look like the bottom of your aquarium, but a few have real sand. Very high on my list of golf courses to play if you are in the area. Love the challenge! Makes me want to come back.

One of my favorite courses in New Jersey! I played Twisted Dune many times, year-round, back when I was a member of Empire Golf. Always in great shape, it can be long and difficult, but a fun experience every time. We played it many times in the winter when our central NJ courses were closed, with temps in the teens and twenties. Golf, you gotta love it!
