Passaconaway Country Club

Litchfield, New Hampshire, USASouthern New Hampshire

Passaconaway Country Club presents an 18-hole parkland layout blending natural New England features with a fair but testing golf experience. Well-maintained greens and thoughtfully routed fairways make it a strong choice for players seeking competitive golf in a public setting.

Course Overview

Passaconaway Country Club, located in Litchfield, New Hampshire, offers a rewarding 18-hole layout that balances challenge and enjoyment for a broad range of golfers. As a public course, it provides accessible golf amidst a setting shaped by New England’s natural contours. The design leans toward a parkland style, with tree-lined fairways and pockets of wetland creating a dynamic backdrop. While some holes traverse swampy areas that require careful navigation, the course’s overall maintenance remains commendable, reflecting ongoing efforts to keep conditions sharp and greens true.

Covering a respectable total yardage, the course demands thoughtful shot placement, especially on the longer back nine where length and rough vegetation can stretch the stamina of even experienced players. The routing encourages steady pacing, though on busy days players may find slower intervals without a ranger present. Areas of dense foliage call for precision and patience, rewarding controlled approaches and strategic thinking. For those seeking a test that is neither overly punishing nor overly simplistic, Passaconaway presents a solid middle ground.

The clubhouse is welcoming, with friendly staff dedicated to ensuring a smooth experience from check-in to the 19th hole. Amenities are modest but effective, emphasizing value in both play and service. Walkers will find the terrain manageable, although footwear suited for soft ground is advisable during wetter months, given certain holes’ proximity to marshy sections.

This course suits players looking to enjoy competitive golf without the premium of private clubs. It’s an ideal place for locals and visitors ready to engage with a course that mixes natural challenges with straightforward design principles. Greens recently received maintenance work to enhance playability, and the staff’s commitment to steady rounds helps maintain a rhythm across the day.

Passaconaway Country Club remains a solid choice in southern New Hampshire, delivering quality golf on a public course that tests skills while respecting the budget-conscious player.

I've been going here off and on for years, and I'm constantly amazed by the quality of the course and the condition that it's in. It's not perfect, there are some wet, swampy areas on some holes and they can be mildly annoying, but not terrible. For a public course, you really can't beat it for the price, condition and service. The staff is always great. For the most part, they do a great job keeping play moving, though there have been times when you'd wish there was a ranger around, but what course doesn't have that problem? ;-) It's can be a little long on the back as a few other reviews have noted, but overall, it's an aesthetically pleasing, well-designed, moderately challenging course that is tough to beat in the area in terms of price, value, overall condition and service.

I hate the course. 4th and 5th holes are unplayable for me. You can't see where your ball lands. Then the ranger tells to pick up your pace of play. They could use a for caddy there, but I don't think they could see where the ball landed. Hole 3, I hit my 3rd shot down the middle left side, I couldn't find it in the rough. Folks are great. Course in good shape. Greens recently punched. Cashless is blah. Charging a 6 bucks breakfast sandwich is stupid. Rather, leave ten bucks for it on the bar. A lot of potential , but I think the growth of the vegetation has taken over the course.

Best course in southern nh for the price. Great condition, decent round time 4hr 20min. Gets long on the back.
