Eastman Golf Links

Grantham, New Hampshire, USASouthern New Hampshire

Eastman Golf Links challenges golfers with its hilly terrain, blind shots, and forest-lined fairways, offering an 18-hole public layout that blends natural New England scenery with a thoughtful test for all skill levels. Its distinct elevation changes and well-kept greens make it a memorable experience for players prepared to navigate its unique demands.

Course Overview

Eastman Golf Links presents an 18-hole challenge that moves through a landscape defined by significant elevation changes and a mix of natural obstacles, creating a playing experience that demands precision and course knowledge. Located in Grantham, New Hampshire, this public course offers a distinctive route where blind tee shots and uphill approaches become routine, testing a golfer’s ability to judge distance and trajectory under varied conditions.

The layout unfolds with a blend of forested corridors and open stretches, framing each hole with a sense of seclusion while weaving through a residential neighborhood rather than the common pattern of homes surrounding the course perimeter. The elevation shifts contribute to a unique rhythm, where long par 4s and 5s challenge players to balance power and control amid terrain that alters club selection and shot strategy.

The course’s turf conditions are generally well maintained, though recent moisture can soften fairways, making precise approach shots critical. The greens, while thoughtfully designed, may remain firm and fast during peak seasons. Players will find that the putting surfaces can present subtle breaks that reward close reading, adding an extra layer of challenge. A notably steep and undulating practice green has been reported as somewhat difficult for warm-ups; plans are underway to improve this facility.

Eastman Golf Links welcomes golfers of all skill levels, though those unaccustomed to the elevation and blind shots should take time to study the course guide or use GPS aids to avoid lost balls and errant strokes. Carts are available and strongly advised for most players due to the demanding terrain. The friendly staff enhance the experience by providing helpful insights and smooth service.

Visiting golfers can expect an honest test of their abilities framed by the natural New England landscape, with crisp air and scenic views that become particularly striking in autumn. While the course’s design may challenge those seeking straightforward play, it rewards patient and thoughtful golf. Hospitality is straightforward, with online booking available and reasonable rates, though visitors should review pricing details carefully before arrival due to recent considerations regarding junior and student rates.

Eastman Golf Links stands as a course where thoughtful navigation and respect for the land shape the round, inviting players to engage with its unique personality and subtle demands.

Course Highlights

The course features considerable elevation shifts that create blind tee shots and demanding uphill approaches, adding complexity uncommon in typical New England layouts. The routing through a residential neighborhood rather than homes surrounding each hole provides a distinctive feel. Attention to turf care ensures playable conditions despite occasional wetness. The steep practice green is a known challenge but is undergoing improvements. The staff are known for their friendly, knowledgeable service that supports first-time visitors.

Always a treat playing here, especially during the fall!

By far the least favorite course design I've ever played. Massive elevation changes lead to blind tee shots and severely uphill approaches on the majority of the Par 4's and 5's, and I despise both. Unless you play here often and know the course well, you'll be looking for your ball a lot and end up with poor shots that look good off the tee & fairway. For this reason alone I won't play here again. I gave it four stars though because basically everything they can control in the present time is good, so it's not fair to give a bad rating solely off what a course designer did 50 years ago. The staff is nice as well as the clubhouse. The carts are very new, which is nice as you'll need one due to the aforementioned elevation. Conditions are largely good, some landing areas in fairways are very soft from moisture but besides that the greenskeepers do a good job. Practice green is largely useless as it's a turtleback, but apparently it's being moved in the near future. $100 on weekends with a cart isn't awful in 2024. Overall if you like the design features of this course mentioned above that I don't like, I'd give it a shot.

Great staff - when I told him it was my first time at the course, he handed me the course guide booklet and gave me some tips. The course was in great shape...fair and challenging holes. Worth the drive from Manchester to play. I played mid-summer and my guess is that with the views and elevation changes, playing in the fall will be spectacular.

The course is nice, but the pricing information on the website is misleading. My college student son and his friends drove an hour to play at Eastman instead of the local course, because their website advertises "Juniors (ages 16 - 17) and Students" rate of $22. When they arrived, the person checking them in said that the "Students" reference is only for high school students. When they showed her the website wording quoted above, she said, "yeah a lot of college students have come in expecting that discount, but it's only for high school students." They ended up paying 3x for 9 holes then they were expecting to pay for 18 and spent much more money than they were expecting because they didn't have time to drive elsewhere. I see no issue with Eastman charging whatever they think is appropriate for their course. However, the pricing should be clear on the website and it's curious that they fail to revise the language despite their own representative acknowledging that it's a repeated misperception.

Unsurprisingly the course was very wet this past weekend, but still an excellent playthrough. The staff were friendly and efficient, and everything from online booking to teeing off was smooth. It's a bit of a different course in that it's not really houses built around a golf course, but more a golf course that runs through a neighborhood, but it's fun with a mix of hazards to watch out for. On a minor note, it's not necessary for sure, but I was a bit sad that the scorecard didn't have a map of the holes on it as many courses do. The folks I was paired with had their phones and a map on that which worked out fine, and many holes you can see where you're going anyway, but to me it's one of those small nice to have things.
