Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center

San Diego, California, USASouthern California

Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center delivers an executive-style, par-59 layout right on San Diego’s waterfront. With a focus on par 3s and shorter par 4s, it offers a compact, approachable challenge paired with extensive practice facilities that cater to beginners and experienced players alike.

Course Overview

Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center offers a refreshing departure from traditional 18-hole layouts with its executive-style, par-59 course that challenges players to sharpen their short game and course management skills. Located along the scenic Mission Bay waterfront in San Diego, California, this municipal course provides golfers a compact yet thoughtfully maintained layout that emphasizes par 3s and shorter par 4s, the longest hole just shy of 300 yards. The course’s design invites golfers of all skill levels to test precision over power, with closely positioned greens guarded by bunkers and subtle contouring that reward thoughtful shot placement.

Set against a backdrop of coastal breeze and open sky, the course's well-kept fairways and greens offer a pleasant playing experience, though the infrastructure outside the playing field reflects its municipal status. Though the cart paths show some wear, the fairways maintain consistent conditioning, making it a reliable choice for an affordable round without sacrificing quality. Early morning tee times are ideal for avoiding crowding and enjoying a steady pace, as the course can become busy during peak hours.

Beyond the course itself, the practice center is a highlight, featuring a driving range, two putting greens, and areas targeted for short game improvement. These facilities attract local golfers eager to fine-tune their swing or warm up before a round. The friendly and approachable staff work hard to ensure the experience remains positive, though visitors should note occasional fluctuations in service atmosphere.

For players planning a visit, walking is encouraged since the course’s compact nature keeps distances manageable, but sturdy shoes are recommended due to some uneven terrain and softer footing around greens. The nearby tiki bar and covered seating areas provide a casual spot to unwind post-round, enhancing the overall visit with a social touch. Mission Bay blends accessibility with steady challenge, making it a practical and welcoming destination for San Diego golfers seeking a quick, enjoyable round or focused practice session.

A fun little municipal course. It’s only a par 59. Lots of par 3s and a few par 4s. The longest hole is just below 300 yards. Still lots of fun to be had. The course itself is quite nice. It’s well taken care of for a county course. The infrastructure around the course is a bit beat up though. But I would rather have a good playing field than perfect cart paths. There was no marshal that I saw. However, there were no pace of place issues during my early morning tee time. The resident rate is sub 40 dollars so that can’t be beat. The staff were very nice and got me out quick. Overall, a very pleasant way to spend a morning in beautiful San Diego.

I haven’t played golf and sometime and decided to get back into it. I happen to live 8 minutes from mission bay golf course and practice center but have never gone until now and I’m so glad I did. Great staff and super friendly, course looked to be in great conditions although I didn’t play. The practice area is well kept and prices for range balls are good and tons of things you can work on here. Definitely my new go to for my practice sessions.

Played here several times but today was especially annoying. We had a tee time and my son went to check in and (Ryan) was working the desk . He couldn’t have been more rude and pretty much started off our day on the wrong track . Not sure if he was having a bad day or what but his actions and attitude were totally unacceptable and he definitely shouldn’t be in the position he’s in . Someone needs to reevaluate his behavior and take action that this type of behavior isn’t repeated or tolerated 🤷‍♂️🏌🏾‍♂️

Fairly maintained greatly priced public executive golf course with very short par 4s and mostly par 3s. Pretty slow pace of play. Much better of a practice course than a full course but great to hone in your short game. Driving range and tiki bar are great additions as well. Two putting practice greens

A comfortable par 3 course. Service meets basic standards. Sometimes I can be really busy, there is also disc golf and soccer golf holes on the same holes as the golf holes. But, they did what they had to do to fit in 18 holes and a driving range in the relatively small space for a golf course. Not terrible expensive either, but just about right for a Par 3 course. Grounds conditions are just okay.
