Hawks Landing Golf Club

Yucca Valley, California, USASouthern California Desert

Hawks Landing Golf Club presents a refreshing desert golf challenge on a compact 12-hole layout set amidst the rugged beauty of Yucca Valley. With a blend of natural terrain and strategic design, this semi-private course offers an accessible yet engaging round, complemented by casual dining that embraces the high desert ambiance.

Course Overview

Hawks Landing Golf Club offers a distinctive mountain-style golfing experience within the high desert landscape of Yucca Valley, California. This semi-private facility features a 12-hole layout crafted to engage golfers who appreciate a course that melds natural desert terrain with thoughtful design. While unconventional in length, Hawks Landing’s holes thread through rugged fairways defined by native vegetation, rocky outcrops, and subtle elevation shifts. The desert air carries a quiet challenge as winds gently push across the fairways, requiring players to carefully consider club selection and shot shape.

The course reflects a straightforward approach to playability. It welcomes golfers of varying skill levels with fair landing areas and greens that reward steady approaches more than flashy recoveries. Occasional sand traps and natural waste areas provide strategic complexity without overwhelming less experienced players. Although it offers only 12 holes, the layout encourages repeated rounds and enhances focus on short games and course management.

Dining at Hawks Landing extends the experience beyond golf. The restaurant provides an inviting outdoor setting with sweeping views that visually connect the course’s rugged backdrop to the table. The menu features generous portions and a selection designed to satisfy players returning from the desert’s expanse. Casual yet attentive service complements the relaxed atmosphere, making it a comfortable spot to unwind.

Hawks Landing’s location just off Martinez Trail in Yucca Valley places it as a convenient option for desert visitors and locals in search of a golf outing that balances challenge with accessibility. Golfers should prepare for walking conditions typical of desert courses — stable shoes and sun protection are advisable. While course conditions occasionally reflect maintenance cycles and desert limitations, the venue’s friendly staff and accommodating environment maintain its appeal.

For players seeking a genuinely different desert golf alternative to the longer courses of Palm Springs, Hawks Landing provides a practical, scenic choice that connects the adventure of the desert landscape with a compact, engaging golf layout.

Course Highlights

The course’s 12 holes navigate natural desert features including native shrubs, rocky outcroppings, and gentle elevation changes. The design prioritizes approachable play with fairways framed by desert flora and sand waste areas offering strategic variety. The accompanying restaurant’s outdoor dining space provides expansive views of the course and surrounding desert, delivering a distinctive post-round setting.

The Pro shop made my twosome play with a single player. That single player was from 29 Palms marine base. He was so amazing to play with. Wish I really could have played with him alone.

We were at this place just to have lunch. Saw on the Google with good reviews also a great outdoor dining view. Ordered and pay first at the register then sit wherever you want to sit they brought food to your table. The experience to eat at this place was good, but I wasn’t expecting I felt we had lunch at the cafeteria vibe. Everything they served our food on the paper plates and cups.. only the utensils was not disposable. I ordered soup of the day (split pea w/ham) and chef salad (for me was a huge portions) My husband ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and he said was really good burger.

The staff are amazing. The vibe here is outstanding. Super welcoming. Pretty clear they get what makes golf special - time with your family while hitting a little ball around. Our family came with two small kids and they were accommodating (just keep pace). Restaurant is so good. Definitely coming back next time we visit.

Was really excited to play this course as it had good reviews and was only half the distance to the courses in Palm Springs (from Joshua Tree), but in hindsight I think the extra 60 min might’ve been worth it. Pro shop staff was great and this course has potential, but maintenance and it only being 12 holes it fell short for the value paid. Especially not being able to play just 12. You pay for 18 and there’s no other option. I understand they were aerating the greens recently but one green was in absolute disarray. Rental clubs were only $10 which was nice but they were in rough shape. Could see myself coming back with some friends but only in a pinch.
