Silverbell Golf Course

Tucson, Arizona, USASouthern Arizona

Silverbell Golf Course offers Tucson golfers an accessible desert-style municipal course with narrow fairways and rugged surroundings. Its straightforward 18-hole layout rewards accuracy and patience amid a dry, arid landscape, making it a practical choice for players seeking affordable desert golf.

Course Overview

Silverbell Golf Course in Tucson, Arizona, presents an 18-hole municipal layout that challenges golfers with its straightforward design and desert environment. Unlike traditional mountain or coastal courses, Silverbell’s flat terrain offers a style that leans toward the pragmatic side of desert golf. The course is set against the arid landscapes typical of Tucson, with open fairways bordered by rocky, scrubland roughs rather than lush greenery. This creates a relentless environment where precision off the tee is essential, as errant shots often find themselves in unforgiving desert terrain.

The course’s layout favors straight play, lacking the sweeping doglegs and dramatic elevation shifts that many golfers seek. This straightforward routing is accessible to players at most skill levels, although the narrow fairways and desert rough demand accuracy and measured strategy. While not heavily adorned with architectural flourishes or signature holes, Silverbell offers multiple par-4s and par-3s that test ball placement and short game recovery within a desert context.

Fairways and tees have been maintained to a reasonable standard, though course conditions vary. The greens have garnered some criticism for inconsistent surfaces, with a few showing wear and patches that suggest a need for attentive upkeep. Nonetheless, the pace of play tends to be steady – an important factor for those looking to get through 18 holes without delay.

Amenities at Silverbell are modest; the course functions primarily as a local public facility and maintains a no-frills atmosphere. Facilities such as restrooms and parking have room for improvement, and players should plan accordingly. Despite some limitations, Silverbell serves as an affordable option for Tucson residents and visitors seeking desert golf without steep green fees.

For golfers planning a visit, it’s advisable to bring golf shoes suited for dry conditions and to prepare for a walk that requires stamina, given the arid climate and course length near 6,500 yards. Early morning tee times help avoid the intense afternoon sun common in southern Arizona. Silverbell encourages a game focused on shot control and patience, framed by the distinctive Southwestern landscape that few courses in this region replicate quite the same way.

Course Highlights

Silverbell’s desert setting frames a course that emphasizes straightforward play over elaborate design. The narrow fairways demand precise shot making, while the harsh desert rough challenges recovery shots. The layout features a mix of par-3s and par-4s with minimal elevation changes, creating a steady rhythm for golfers seeking a no-frills round under the Arizona sun.

I enjoyed this course a lot. It's pretty open. We went early in the morning and they had just watered so it was pretty muddy but all in all a great course.

Silverbell Golf Course has potential, but there’s definitely room for improvement. The layout could be better organized, and for this early in the season, the course is surprisingly dry. A bit more attention to turf management would make a big difference. The staff could also be more welcoming—friendlier service goes a long way in creating a better experience. Amenities are fairly limited; even small additions like ball washers at a few key spots and more consistent upkeep would enhance the round. With some updates and attention to detail, this course could be a much more enjoyable place to play.

If I can give no stars I would they were disrespectful to me and my party very strict they pissed me off an messed up my whole mood they had the audacity to say we’re wasting time and there’s no room for beginner level players but they gladly took the money from us I wanted to slap the dude when he said that

Honestly, really didn't enjoy playing golf here too much. The condition of the course is not ideal, especially the greens, several greens have "bunkers" on it, if you know what I mean. Hardly can name one of the 18 holes that the design is good, pretty much all the holes are straight, not even dog leg left or right.

About what you would expect from a municipal course. Fair price for the course. Pace of play was good. The tee boxes and fairways and greens were in excellent shape, but the rest of the course was a mess. Just bare dirt and unmanucured 10 feet off the fairway. Actually several interesting holes.

Course is very nice! The driveway/parking lot is terrible with tons of potholes and cracks. Bathrooms are disgusting, especially the one on the course. Don't think the bowl has ever seen a brush.

Decent course. The fairways seem really narrow and the "rough" is just hard rock and desert, so there's not much room for error. We got pretty jammed up at the end of the course on a weekday afternoon.
