Rolling Hills Golf Course
Rolling Hills Golf Course presents a short, approachable 18-hole layout amid the desert landscape of Tucson. Its open, dry terrain favors beginners and high handicappers while offering subtle challenges in wind and elevation on the back nine.
Course Overview
Rolling Hills Golf Course in Tucson, Arizona offers an accessible, 18-hole layout that suits golfers looking for a straightforward round with a relaxed pace. This public facility challenges players with a short but engaging course that spreads across sun-baked terrain characteristic of the desert Southwest. The front nine reveals a flatter, more forgiving design, ideal for high handicap players and those seeking to hone their game without being overwhelmed. As you advance to the back nine, expect subtle shifts in elevation and strategically placed bunkers that require thoughtful shot placement, adding a touch of complexity to an otherwise open layout.
The course’s dry, hard conditions demand well-planned club selection and course management. Grass surfaces on tee boxes and fairways provide reasonable footing for hitters, though the turf’s wear becomes evident later in the day, especially during peak season. Rolling Hills welcomes players of varied skill levels but has an emphasis on beginner to intermediate golfers thanks to its approachable yardage and generally open sightlines. The short length reduces lost ball woes, a common frustration at desert courses with dense, unforgiving scrub and cacti.
Players should note that the facility’s pro shop and driving range operate on relatively early closing hours, a factor to consider when scheduling late afternoon rounds. Golf carts are available for rental, but walking is encouraged, especially during cooler morning and evening hours.
Though the course does not boast dramatic mountain panoramas or lush coastal greens, its quiet atmosphere and straightforward design make it a convenient option for Tucson locals or visitors seeking a low-pressure golf experience. Rolling Hills invites players to focus on fundamentals amid the shifting desert light and steady Arizona breeze. Planning your visit in the early morning allows for better turf conditions and less sun exposure.
The clubhouse offers typical amenities for a city course, making it a practical stop for those balancing golf with everyday schedules.

Course is short but decent. Why does the pro shop (aka the driving range) close at 5with 2 hours left of sunlight so can't do anything after work if you plan to? You could still play 9 in that amount of time ?? No reason to go unless retired or non standard working hours

Small course very dry and hard. It is nice to play there if better hydrated. Front nine is easier, flatter but back nine isn’t hard. High handicap golfers will like this course due to short length(s) and open layout. You lose less balls.

Teed off at 4:40. Their website states that it is $25 for cart and as many holes as you can play after 4. We paid that fee. I got kicked off on the 10th tee saying we only paid for 9. I won’t be back which is too bad cause it was close to my home.

They don’t even know their own rates. On the website it says after 4 all you can play for $25 but they kicked us off. Will never go back to this establishment.

Went here after checking into our hotel, loved the fact that they had grass to hit off of. The grass was a little beat up though, may have been because we went here around 5 pm, so late in the day.
