Rolling Hills Golf Course
Rolling Hills Golf Course delivers a friendly, accessible 18-hole experience in Tucson’s desert environment. With an open layout and forgiving design, it suits beginners and high handicappers seeking affordable golf close to the city.
Course Overview
Rolling Hills Golf Course in Tucson, Arizona, presents a straightforward yet engaging 18-hole layout tailored for golfers seeking a casual, approachable round. Its desert setting on the city’s east side offers wide-open fairways with minimal undulation and limited tree coverage, reflecting the arid Sonoran landscape. The course plays shorter than many regional counterparts, making it inviting for beginners and high handicappers who benefit from its forgiving tee shots and straightforward hole designs. While the terrain is dry and firm, which can add some challenge in controlling ball roll, the open layout ensures lost balls remain minimal, easing play for less experienced golfers.
This is a public-access course primarily welcomed by local residents and travelers looking for an affordable, quick round close to town. The front nine typically features flatter holes, offering a comfortable warm-up, while the back nine adds subtle elevation changes that gently test shot creativity without overwhelming distance. The course’s modest yardage and wind exposure, common in Tucson’s desert, invite players to focus on shot placement and tempo rather than raw power.
Amenities at Rolling Hills include a driving range with grass tees, a pleasant feature given the desert environment, although the pro shop and range hours can be limited in the evenings. Golf carts are available but walking is also practical on this largely flat terrain, though sturdy shoes are recommended due to dry, firm conditions underfoot. Visitors should plan tee times in daylight hours to maximize play, as lighting is not available and operational hours tend to close early.
The clubhouse offers basic facilities and a relaxed atmosphere, reflecting the course’s community-centered vibe rather than luxury resort style. Rolling Hills is a fitting course for those prioritizing accessibility, quick rounds, and a low-pressure golfing experience amid Tucson’s distinctive desert backdrop. Whether seeking a casual practice venue or an introduction to golf in the southwest, this course offers a grounded and practical option worth considering.
Course Highlights
Rolling Hills is characterized by broad fairways and a low-profile desert landscape, integrating expanse rather than elevation. The course features grass tee boxes uncommon for local desert layouts, enhancing shot comfort. While it lacks dramatic architectural flourishes, its straightforward design lets players focus on rhythm and course management. The back nine introduces gentle rolls and subtle challenges shaped by prevailing winds that encourage thoughtful club selection.

Teed off at 4:40. Their website states that it is $25 for cart and as many holes as you can play after 4. We paid that fee. I got kicked off on the 10th tee saying we only paid for 9. I won’t be back which is too bad cause it was close to my home.

Course is short but decent. Why does the pro shop (aka the driving range) close at 5with 2 hours left of sunlight so can't do anything after work if you plan to? You could still play 9 in that amount of time ?? No reason to go unless retired or non standard working hours

Small course very dry and hard. It is nice to play there if better hydrated. Front nine is easier, flatter but back nine isn’t hard. High handicap golfers will like this course due to short length(s) and open layout. You lose less balls.

They don’t even know their own rates. On the website it says after 4 all you can play for $25 but they kicked us off. Will never go back to this establishment.

Went here after checking into our hotel, loved the fact that they had grass to hit off of. The grass was a little beat up though, may have been because we went here around 5 pm, so late in the day.
