Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course

Tucson, Arizona, USASouthern Arizona

Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course presents a desert-style 18-hole public layout that blends strategic challenges with approachable play. Its broad fairways alongside natural drainage ditches and native desert vegetation offer an engaging round suitable for golfers of all levels.

Course Overview

Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course, located at 602 S Alvernon Way in Tucson, Arizona, offers an 18-hole public layout that balances desert challenges with approachable playability. The course stretches over a modest distance, presenting a par 72 setup carved into the Sonoran Desert landscape. While it does not boast dramatic elevation changes, its defining features are wide fairways flanked by large drainage ditches that demand careful shot placement. These natural hazards require players to manage both accuracy and strategy, rewarding thoughtful course management over sheer power.

The setting positions golfers amid classic desert flora—sparse mesquite and palo verde trees outline the layout, merging with desert scrub and sandy waste areas that demand respect. This environment influences play especially on windy days when the natural desert breezes test the client’s rhythm and shot control. Despite its desert style, the course remains accessible to golfers across skill levels, with forgiving tee boxes that allow less experienced players to enjoy the round, while forcing lower handicaps to navigate the intricacies of the ditches and undulating greens.

Facility-wise, Randolph Dell Urich functions as a community-focused public course featuring a straightforward clubhouse and basic amenities designed to support quick access and ease of play. The pro shop and staff have earned a reputation for being welcoming and professional, though some recent feedback indicates variability in course conditions and pace of play. Given the desert climate, the best times to play are during the cooler months, when the course maintains a firmer, faster surface and the air holds less heat.

Those planning a visit should bring extra hydration, consider clubs suited for desert conditions, and prepare for walking challenges caused by the arid terrain and occasional uneven footing. Golf carts are typically available, but walking is encouraged for those seeking a more immersive experience. Randolph Dell Urich remains an affordable option within Tucson’s golf scene, offering a distinct desert layout that blends functional design with natural obstacles, creating an engaging test for everyday golfers and visitors alike.

Course Highlights

The course is characterized by expansive drainage ditches lining many fairways, providing a unique desert hazard that replaces traditional bunkers. Native desert vegetation frames the layout, creating distinct fairway corridors and influencing shot-making. The straightforward desert design facilitates a brisk pace of play when conditions are managed well. The course’s management focuses on community accessibility, though recent player reviews note variability in course maintenance and pricing.

$200 for my wife and I, they wouldn't let us share a set of clubs because "pace of play", but it's a blatant money grab. Its incredible businesses would rather rip you off once than have you back regularly.

From tee to green, this course is a model of outstanding management. The fairways and greens are impeccably maintained, the staff is professional and welcoming, and pace of play is well-organized. Everything runs smoothly—from the pro shop to the starter to the clubhouse—making each round a pleasure. Their attention to detail and commitment to service shows in every aspect of the facility. Easily one of the best-run courses I’ve played

Disappointing Changes at Randolph Golf Course – Pricing Out the Locals As a long-time Tucson resident and regular player at Randolph Golf Course, I’m disheartened by the recent changes under the new general manager. The summer rates – traditionally a time when locals could enjoy affordable golf in the Arizona heat – have more than doubled. This dramatic price hike comes without any visible course improvements to justify it. Randolph has always been a community course, a place where Tucsonans of all ages and backgrounds could play without breaking the bank. Now, it feels like the course is being turned into an exclusive venue, pushing out the very people who have supported it for years. The greens and facilities remain largely unchanged. No major renovations, no new amenities – just higher prices. Golf is already an expensive sport, and for many of us, Randolph was one of the few accessible options. These price hikes send a clear message: locals are no longer the priority. It’s frustrating to see a public course head in this direction, especially when it has such a rich history of serving the community. I hope the management reconsiders these changes before the course loses the loyalty of the very people who have kept it thriving.

The nicest city course around with huge trees, water features, and grass that's green year round. They usually have reasonable fees too.

Driving range markers didn't get moved in the morning so we warmed up in complete dirt patch, tee boxes were horrible, fairways were dirt. Pace of play was atrocious, and clowns were picking up our balls left and right with now care in the world. Will not return and I will spread the word about the horrible experience I had. Should be a 25$ round that cost over $50 in the dead of summer what a joke.

I'll say the CP value of this course is undebatable, though the condition was not impressed, but the course design is fantastic. The characteristics of Randolph Dell Urich course is that there's a lot big ditches alongside the fairways, though not bunkers, but still going to cost you if you don't handle the next shot well.
