Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course

Tucson, Arizona, USASouthern Arizona

Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course in Tucson blends desert ruggedness with urban accessibility, crafting an 18-hole public layout that tests precision amid natural arroyos and arid surroundings. Its approachable design offers a genuine challenge to golfers seeking straightforward desert golf with practical amenities.

Course Overview

Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course offers a challenging yet approachable layout within the vibrant urban setting of Tucson, Arizona. This public 18-hole course stretches across a desert landscape shaped by its unique incorporation of natural arroyos and rugged terrain rather than traditional bunkers. The design emphasizes strategic shot-making, demanding precision and thoughtful navigation through large ditches that line many fairways. These natural hazards shape both risk and reward, encouraging players to balance power with accuracy.

Though the course sits close to city life, the surrounding Sonoran Desert provides a distinct southwestern atmosphere with expansive skies and sparse vegetation creating wide-open vistas. The heat of the Arizona sun often plays a role in how players manage their rounds, especially during summer months when conditions become more testing. The fairways generally offer generous landing zones, while the greens vary in speed, keeping putts engaging across all skill levels.

Randolph Dell Urich is designed to be inclusive in its playability, welcoming golfers seeking a straightforward, no-frills experience. The course appeals to local players who appreciate a solid test that does not rely heavily on manicured landscaping but instead on a raw desert personality. While the layout challenges lower handicaps with demanding approach shots and tricky terrain, it remains accessible enough to accommodate intermediate players looking to develop their game.

Amenities are practical and oriented toward everyday golfers. The pro shop, practice range, and clubhouse support a community environment, though some recent reviews suggest that maintenance and pace of play can be inconsistent. Walking is permitted and often preferred given the compact routing, though players should prepare for the heat and uneven footing across dry desert ground.

Overall, Randolph Dell Urich stands as an authentic city course with a distinctive southwestern flavor. It offers a golf experience defined less by luxury and more by the honest challenge of desert golf, which can prove rewarding to those looking to engage fully with the landscape and their game.

Course Highlights

The course is notable for its integration of natural desert arroyos alongside fairways, creating a playing field dominated by large, dry ditches instead of traditional bunkers. This distinctive feature influences club selection and shot strategy throughout the round. Its setting within Tucson brings a desert golf atmosphere rather than manicured parkland style, offering panoramic desert views and a challenge shaped by temperature and terrain rather than elevation changes.

I'll say the CP value of this course is undebatable, though the condition was not impressed, but the course design is fantastic. The characteristics of Randolph Dell Urich course is that there's a lot big ditches alongside the fairways, though not bunkers, but still going to cost you if you don't handle the next shot well.

$200 for my wife and I, they wouldn't let us share a set of clubs because "pace of play", but it's a blatant money grab. Its incredible businesses would rather rip you off once than have you back regularly.

From tee to green, this course is a model of outstanding management. The fairways and greens are impeccably maintained, the staff is professional and welcoming, and pace of play is well-organized. Everything runs smoothly—from the pro shop to the starter to the clubhouse—making each round a pleasure. Their attention to detail and commitment to service shows in every aspect of the facility. Easily one of the best-run courses I’ve played

Driving range markers didn't get moved in the morning so we warmed up in complete dirt patch, tee boxes were horrible, fairways were dirt. Pace of play was atrocious, and clowns were picking up our balls left and right with now care in the world. Will not return and I will spread the word about the horrible experience I had. Should be a 25$ round that cost over $50 in the dead of summer what a joke.

The nicest city course around with huge trees, water features, and grass that's green year round. They usually have reasonable fees too.

Disappointing Changes at Randolph Golf Course – Pricing Out the Locals As a long-time Tucson resident and regular player at Randolph Golf Course, I’m disheartened by the recent changes under the new general manager. The summer rates – traditionally a time when locals could enjoy affordable golf in the Arizona heat – have more than doubled. This dramatic price hike comes without any visible course improvements to justify it. Randolph has always been a community course, a place where Tucsonans of all ages and backgrounds could play without breaking the bank. Now, it feels like the course is being turned into an exclusive venue, pushing out the very people who have supported it for years. The greens and facilities remain largely unchanged. No major renovations, no new amenities – just higher prices. Golf is already an expensive sport, and for many of us, Randolph was one of the few accessible options. These price hikes send a clear message: locals are no longer the priority. It’s frustrating to see a public course head in this direction, especially when it has such a rich history of serving the community. I hope the management reconsiders these changes before the course loses the loyalty of the very people who have kept it thriving.
