Hampton, Virginia, USASoutheastern Virginia

Woodlands Golf Course in Hampton, Virginia offers an approachable 18-hole public layout that blends parkland scenery with strategic water and bunker challenges. Known for its well-kept greens and thoughtful design, it suits golfers seeking a fair but testing round in a friendly setting.

Course Overview

Woodlands Golf Course in Hampton, Virginia offers an engaging and well-rounded golf experience that appeals to a broad range of players. This public 18-hole layout balances challenge with accessibility, making it an ideal destination for beginners seeking a welcoming introduction to the game, as well as seasoned golfers looking to test their skills on a course that demands thoughtful strategy and solid shot-making.

Spanning just under regulation length yet packing plenty of character, Woodlands offers a parkland setting punctuated by mature trees, thoughtfully placed bunkers, and a web of water hazards that come into play on several holes. These natural features prompt a methodical approach, particularly around the greens, where contours are keenly guarded by sand and water, requiring precision and sound course management. Elevated greens and subtle undulations invite careful reading of putts, rewarding those who respect the course's nuanced design.

The layout is tight in places, with several holes running close to one another, which keeps players alert when navigating the course. Despite this, the walkability is good, with gentle elevation changes that prevent fatigue over eighteen holes. Golfers choosing to walk will find rental pull carts available, and sturdy golf shoes are advisable given the occasional wet terrain near water features.

Woodlands is known for its well-maintained greens that are consistently praised for their speed and smoothness, providing a satisfying roll and feedback on the putting surface. The course also includes a small clubhouse offering food and beverage service, with a reputation for friendly, attentive staff ensuring a comfortable round.

With a moderate yardage and a par 72 setup, Woodlands delivers a course that challenges players’ accuracy and short game more than sheer length. It rewards patience and smart playing decisions more than brute force, making it a standout facility within Hampton's golf options. For those seeking a legitimate test without the demands of longer courses, Woodlands Golf Course is a reliable, affordable choice blending approachable fun with strategic design.

Course Highlights

The Woodland's is living proof that all golf courses do not need to be 7,000 plus yardage to be tough ! Just look at the scores when the Hampton Amatuer is played , some of the best players in the south east and yet they do not score super low ! It is still just what Seniors and ladies need to have a great challenging game

Great, challenging course! The greens were in really nice shape. The course had lots of water obstacles and sand traps that made for an exciting game. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that the holes were on top of one another and it made navigating the course difficult. All in all, a great day for the price!

This is a weekday play. 30 bucks. Fun time. Must play is in 100 miles. 06/09/24 Went and played 18 the other day, the course was nice, 27 with cart. Got some food after it was tasty, chicken salad sandwich. Great place to spend a couple of hours. 04/29/24 Went back to play 18 with my buddy. 27 with cart. Fun little coarse and the players are always friendly. Food at the cafe is solid. 10/26/23 I have played this course so many times over the last 30 years, but it was ten years ago since I have played. You can still rent pull carts. The price is great and it is a fun little 18. Food is wonderful also. There was a very nice young lady making food. I will be back. The greens are great. Fast.

Excellent bang for your buck. Awesome entry point for new golfers, tricky enough for experienced golfers, and always a good round.

I called ahead to confirm all the details needed to play golf here, and everything seemed good to go. However, when I arrived, the person at the register told me I couldn’t play because it would “overcrowd” the area. Meanwhile, I watched others being allowed in without issue. The inconsistency in treatment felt unfair, and honestly, it came across as discriminatory. If there were legitimate concerns, they should be applied equally to all guests. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad impression, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to others looking for a welcoming and inclusive environment. After this horrible customer service, he told me about another golfing place 5 minutes up the road, which turned out to be 20* minutes away in Newport News.
