Battlefield Golf Club

Chesapeake, Virginia, USASoutheastern Virginia

Battlefield Golf Club presents a straightforward, open 18-hole layout in Chesapeake, Virginia, emphasizing wide fairways and well-kept greens. This parkland-style course challenges players with wind and strategically placed hazards while offering a relaxed, walking-friendly atmosphere.

Course Overview

Battlefield Golf Club offers a distinct golfing experience shaped by its open, unobstructed terrain in Chesapeake, Virginia. This 18-hole course combines straightforward design with subtle strategic challenges, set against a backdrop largely free from dense trees and residential housing. Its layout provides a clear view across most fairways, allowing players to focus purely on shot execution without distractions common at more crowded courses.

The course’s style leans toward traditional parkland, characterized by wide fairways and well-maintained bentgrass greens. Water hazards appear sparingly, adding selective risk rather than overwhelming difficulty. Bunkers act more as strategic accents than punishers, allowing golfers of a range of handicaps to enjoy their round without feeling overwhelmed by aggressive obstacles. At roughly average length, the course asks for a solid all-around game, favoring accurate drives and precise iron play.

Despite some logistical and amenity limitations, such as the current absence of a clubhouse and limited on-course facilities, Battlefield Golf Club’s grass quality and open setting provide a clean and straightforward walking course. The absence of mature trees means wind can factor significantly, testing a player’s ability to control trajectory and spin. The open landscape also allows for easy navigation and a relaxed pace when the course is well-managed.

The course welcomes players seeking an accessible yet tactically engaging round, with condition and maintenance that support fair challenges rather than penal extremes. Walkers may find firm footing throughout, although caution is advisable on warmer days due to limited shade and sparse water stations.

While Battlefield Golf Club continues to develop its supporting amenities, it stands out as a practical option for local golfers valuing a wide-open, no-frills golf experience in a quiet setting. Planning for early tee times can help avoid the heat and take advantage of softer greens and calmer winds, making the round all the more enjoyable.

Course Highlights

Battlefield Golf Club stands out for its expansive, treeless fairways and minimal water hazards, providing clear sightlines and emphasizing shot shape control amid open winds. The course’s no-frills design allows players to focus on fundamentals, while the well-maintained bentgrass greens offer a fair and consistent putting surface.

It's a nice course. Not too expensive. Lots of water.

The course itself is solid. The grass is good quality, very picturesque, and a good amount of water. The staff, however, absolutely ruined the experience. Of all the times I've golfed, I've never had the staff rush my group along like this. This time, we were at the driving range at 7:02 AM for a 7:12 tee time and they came driving up, yelling our group's name, and saying we're late and need to get to the first tee. On the second shot of the first hole, AT 7:12 AM, OUR TEE TIME, the staff member drives up and says we need to hurry up or do a scramble (which we were literally doing) because we were taking too long. We were fine until hole 15, when a staff member drove up and once more complained about our pace (we were at a very solid pace, about 3 1/2 hours in). We suspect the staff member was familiar with the 5some (against course rules) behind us, who were driving into us... overall very annoyed with the attitude of the staff, and there are many many other golf courses in the area available to play at, with MUCH better facilities (see other reviews for elaboration on that).

Nice open golf course. No houses anywhere around and very little trees so no getting your ball lost in leaves. Only a couple of holes near a street. Decent greens and little water hazards. Only missing a clubhouse but that’s coming!

Course was in good shape, greens were predictable and well kept. Will play again. Only hiccup was on the first hot day of the year, we could've used some water coolers on the course.

They created a $15 “rider fee” which you have to pay no matter what. Understandable if you have to get another cart, however I was playing by myself and my girlfriend was just tagging along. I had one cart, and had to pay 15 extra bucks just so she could ride in the cart with me. Never heard of this policy at any course in my life. Also, the staff is extremely rude and not accommodating whatsoever. After you pay for your round they could care less what you have to say.

This place is so bad. No clubhouse, no restrooms, putting green might as well be the same as the gravel parking lot. Guy in front me at the range left half a bucket to which I was told by staff that I continued to take the leftovers I would be reprimanded. This course is for dudes in jeans. Don’t waste a dime at this place.
