The Moab Golf Course

Moab, Utah, USASoutheastern Utah

The Moab Golf Course presents a unique desert golf experience with 18 holes that weave through dramatic red rock backdrops. Offering approachable playability alongside growing course improvements, it invites golfers of all levels to engage with the rugged beauty of Utah’s landscape.

Course Overview

Set against the dramatic red rock formations of southeastern Utah, The Moab Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout that uniquely blends the rugged spirit of the desert with approachable golf terrain. While its landscape is undeniably striking, the course also provides a setting that challenges players without overwhelming them, making it suitable for a broad range of skill levels.

This course plays predominantly through dry, open desert fairways that weave around natural arid features and native vegetation. The terrain encourages thoughtful shot placement, especially when the often-present dry winds influence ball flight. Greens are generally large and receptive, guarded by modest bunkers that require precision rather than power, rewarding players who manage the course tactically.

Recent years have seen improvements in course conditions under new management, with efforts focusing on revitalized fairways and smoother greens. Though some sections still show the marks of the desert’s harshness, the ongoing maintenance reflects a clear intent to enhance the golfing experience for visitors and locals alike.

Beyond the course itself, the Moab Golf Course operates a friendly clubhouse environment where affordable food and cold beverages complement a day on the links. The staff’s welcoming attitude is frequently cited by guests as a highlight, creating a relaxed atmosphere that encourages return visits.

Walkers will find the course manageable, though sturdy footwear is advised due to the desert floor’s uneven patches and occasional sandy terrain. Equipment rentals and lessons are offered on-site, providing added convenience for travelers and newcomers.

Playing The Moab Golf Course means engaging with a course that balances natural beauty and practical playability. It is not the plush parkland of more temperate climates but a test rooted in the land’s raw character. For golfers seeking a desert golf experience framed by iconic Utah landscapes, this course offers both challenge and charm without pretense.

Course Highlights

Distinctive desert layout set amid iconic red rock formations, challenging dry winds, tactical fairways that reward shot placement, approachable greens protected by strategic bunkering, and a newly revitalized maintenance program enhancing playability and course condition.

I checked the reviews of this course the night we got here to Moab, based on some of these reviews with the pics i decided the course wasn’t worth playing on. Couple days pass, we have some free time, my friend and I take a drive by the course to see the actual condition. Completely blown away with the pics from a few months ago to the pics I post today. The course is in really good condition. We played a round of 18, the fairways are good, the greens are good on almost all 18, the staff was friendly and the beers are only 3$, the food was fantastic. If you come to Moab for golf, the course is more than playable. June 23, 2025

Played here today with my son after checking into our hotel. Had a great time and we will be playing again tomorrow. Staff was very friendly and helpful. From what I've heard the course was in pretty rough shape a few months ago. Seems like things are turning around.

A group of us have been coming to this golf course for over the last 23 years. We always come in late spring for our annual golf tune-up We take lessons and instructions from Rob Jones, the Golf Pro before we start the season up north. He keeps his teaching methods simple. This year we played three days in a row on a course that is slowly coming back from two years of having no snow. One cannot control Mother Nature. The course is in rough shape, and it will take time to recover. I read the bad reviews and still came to play with my friends. We had a wonderful three days of golf despite the condition of the course. I have no doubt that this course will recover over time to become the jewel in the desert as it once was. The damage is not due to neglect at all. If you have high expectations, wait another year. If you would like to support the staff and the course in tough times, come and play a round and enjoy the beauty of the red rocks around you. The pro shop has some nice merchandise, and the snack house has excellent homemade food. Prices are great, but the best part of the Moab Golf Club is the staff, warm and friendly and very helpful. Instead of criticizing, why not come out and support the course and its staff. It would be a shame for Moab to lose this course for the locals and for us tourists.

played the course a few months ago and a course i would consider one of the best in the state was in really poor shape. (I heard Due to irrigation and personal) since then they hire a new superintendent Travis and in a very short period of time the course looks really good. At the rate they're going the course will look as good as it ever has looked before within a few months. Hats off to the crew at the Moab Golf Course you all are doing a great job and the big thanks to Travis. The job you were doing is impressive.

I played here a couple of times over the years, the last being six years ago. I remember it as being a nice course. Today, however, was the worst golf experience EVER! The course conditions were abominable. It's like they haven't done any maintenance on the fairways or greens at all in forever. Seriously, this course was a disgrace, especially considering it's surrounded such expansive beautiful natural scenery. Two thumbs down!
