Course Overview
Jamestown Golf Course offers a distinctive experience on Rhode Island’s scenic coast, providing a straightforward, approachable round wrapped in the calm of New England’s working landscape. This is a 9-hole, public course located just a short drive from Newport and Providence, making it an accessible retreat for golfers looking to enjoy a crisp day on links-style terrain—with a few modern touches. Flat fairways invite confident drives, while manageable greens beckon players to test their short games without intimidation. The course’s layout boasts open spaces and clear sight lines to notable landmarks such as the Pell Bridge, adding an airy quality to play that refreshes the senses and clears the mind.
The course’s charm is effortless rather than ornate, welcoming players of all skill levels. For beginners or families, the wide fairways offer some forgiveness, while more seasoned players will appreciate the subtle challenges of bunker placement and elevated tees that prompt thoughtful club selection. Weather and wind often play a quiet role here, gently influencing shot strategy while maintaining accessibility.
Jamestown’s clubhouse complements the round with a relaxed ambiance, where golfers can share stories over casual fare and refreshments after their time on the course. While tee times are not currently accepted, early arrival is recommended, especially on weekends, to secure a spot and avoid long waits. Walkers will find the course comfortably navigable with flat terrain and well-maintained paths, though sturdy shoes are advised for morning dew and occasional sandy spots.
Unique to this course are moments like the unconventional tree behind the 8th tee that offers a quiet, almost whimsical character to the route. The combination of scenic views, approachable design, and the warm, if sometimes brisk, interaction with staff and fellow golfers makes Jamestown Golf Course more than a quick nine holes. It invites a simple, honest connection to the game, framed by Rhode Island’s coastal charm and accessible to anyone ready to play.

Really can’t ask for a better 9 hole course than this. It has a beautiful view of the Pell Bridge and the fairways and greens are very well kept. This course is in excellent condition. It is first come first serve so expect it to be busy depending on which day you go and arrive a bit earlier to get in line, but they have a starter usually to keep good pace.

It's a nice little course with some good views and reasonable conditions. As noted by many reviewers, they need to take tee times. It's not that difficult! The current system of grouchy starters directing play is just not workable. If you're looking to play 18 holes, expect to wait close to an hour between nines. If you play, check out the mutant tree behind the 8th tee (see photo)!

Such a fun course! Must play if you are in the area. Only 9 holes, sure you can play it twice, but go and have fun on the 9 and then have lunch, drinks in their nice club house also. Easy to get to from Newport, Providence or South County. Very forgiving course, wide open, and flat greens, nice views of a working farm, and the Newport Bridge (see photos) towers. I can’t wait to go back some day. Wives shop in Newport, and boys play some golf and then meet up for dinner/drink in Newport…now that’s a day! Enjoy it! (Note we played on a grey misty day, and we still had a blast)

This past Thursday my golf group was yelled at by staff two separate people at two separate times - 1) For taking too long in the checkout process (four golfers across two credit cards). This was at the window paying for our round. 2) On the 9th hole, we were yelled at for driving on the wrong side of a "carts this way" sign - literally inches on the wrong side and nowhere near the green or a hazard. The golf is great, the course is in good shape, but the staff seem to be very angry. One idea - add tee time online booking and eliminate the early AM stress on the staff. Additionally, 25 golfers arrived before 7am and only 16 were allowed out before the golf league. Just doesn't seem like the best golfer experience and it seems to be taking a toll on the staff.

Tough to give a score on this one. On one side the course is great nine hole track nice conditions some good views and flows pretty decently. The only reason for 3/5 is the fact they don’t take tee times. You want to play here on a weekend you have to show up and wait in line for close to two hours. First come first serve is a ridiculous system for weekend golf. Just tell me when I can play and I’ll be there simple as that
