Boulder Oaks Golf Club

Escondido, California, USASan Diego County

Boulder Oaks Golf Club in Escondido offers an 18-hole mountain-style course that blends rolling terrain with approachable challenges. Known for its inviting scenery, strategic play, and a unique 19th hole, it’s a refreshing alternative to San Diego’s more crowded coastal layouts.

Course Overview

Located in Escondido, California, Boulder Oaks Golf Club offers a distinctive experience for players drawn to a mountain-style course with a hint of traditional parkland qualities. This 18-hole layout, accompanied by a bonus 19th hole, presents a par 69 that spans just under 6,300 yards from the back tees. The course terrain features rolling hills and elevation changes that challenge both the accuracy and the strategy of golfers, providing a test without demanding excessive length.

Boulder Oaks stands out for its approachable yet engaging design, making it equally suitable for mid-handicap players wanting to enjoy a fair challenge, as well as more skilled golfers seeking to sharpen their course management. The fairways open up with moderate width, but the undulating greens require careful attention to speed and break, especially as pin placements vary frequently. While conditions may fluctuate during the warmer months with some dry patches in fairways and bunkers requiring closer maintenance, consistent care efforts strive to preserve playability.

Scenic views unfold across San Diego’s inland hills, lending an inviting backdrop that remains largely free from the distractions of urban bustle. As a semi-private club that welcomes public play, Boulder Oaks can offer a refreshing alternative to the busier coastal courses in the region, often rewarding players seeking a quieter round.

Golfers will appreciate the clubhouse amenities which include a modest pro shop, a bar with local craft beer selections, and a grill known for its BBQ sandwiches—perfect for post-round relaxation. The course’s layout can test navigation at times, especially when following cart paths through varying elevations, so newcomers are advised to plan their rounds thoughtfully.

Though not immune to operational challenges, Boulder Oaks provides a solid golfing outing with its friendly atmosphere and strategic holes. The addition of a 19th hole adds a playful twist to end your round, encouraging a dose of friendly competition.

For players planning a visit, comfortable walking shoes are recommended given the hills, though carts are available. The course’s blend of challenge and charm makes Boulder Oaks a worthwhile stop for those exploring San Diego’s golfing options beyond the coast.

This is a fun challenging course that is located away from all the more crowded courses closer to the ocean. It’s not a very long course so there are multiple drivable par 4s. Plus a bonus 19th hole. The cart path layout can get a little confusing so pay attention where you’re heading. Course condition was decent, you can’t compare it to the other local courses that have a green fee that are twice as much as here. But it’s definitely worth it to come here. Range is small and the balls are older than I am probably but it works to get warmed up. The staff of friendly and the bbq sandwich is a must! Lots of tee time availability on weekends whenever I check. They also have a new simulator set up to get dialed in on.

I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but the way we were treated at Boulder Oaks Golf Club was unacceptable. I brought my veteran grandfather out to enjoy a round of golf, and we specifically requested an extra cart for his comfort and mobility — a very reasonable ask. Not only did they refuse to honor it, but the staff was incredibly rude about the situation, showing zero courtesy or willingness to help accommodate someone who served this country. On top of that, the course was more than 40 minutes behind schedule. No communication, no apology, no attempt to manage expectations — just a shrug and attitude. We ended up only playing 9 holes instead of the 18 we paid for, and their idea of compensation was an insulting $11 refund. That barely covers a hot dog at the turn, let alone half a round of golf. Between the disrespectful service, poor management, and lack of basic hospitality, this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a golf course. Save yourself the frustration and take your money somewhere that values its players — especially those who’ve earned a little respect.

Horrible business practice to have in the community, will not take responsibility for broken roof or windows for the neighborhood due to its golfers. Does not care about the community at all.

19 holes of golf. Par 73. 18 holes par 69. The 19th hole is fun, i almost drove the green on 19 with a 3iron fading a drive right to left and it rolled 3 feet from the green. Great course. Good pizza. Nice bar and beer selections, lots of improvement is underway, greens were slow and unpredictable for the first 3 holes, hole 9 is not as long as it looks. Great course, $75 for a weekend rate with cart. Easy for the group to lose balls in an open fairway. Cheers

Played course July 19th, 2024. Course was in okay condition. The course was challenging with a great lay out and elevation challenges. Some of the greens had sand on them and some did not but overall the greens rolled pretty fairly. As for the fairways there are a lot of dry spots that make it difficult to make contact on the ball. Tee boxes also need some extra attention. Bunkers also missing a lot of sand. The course would be in a lot better shape if the workers had more help. They seem very under staffed. I could see myself coming back to this course in the future.

Went there for my birthday for the first time in 10 years and was pleasantly surprised with how well the course was maintained. Still as challenging but fun and enjoyable. Also the surprise 19th hole bonus was a great addition! As always the staff made sure that we were taken care of the food was good and the full bar crafted us up some delicious custom cocktails. It was a good day

Great atmosphere and conditions. Tee times every 8 mins will always lead to a 5+ hour round though.
