The Currituck Club

Corolla, North Carolina, USAOuter Banks

The Currituck Club is a public 18-hole links-style course on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, where coastal winds and dune-sculpted fairways shape a strategic golf experience. Its open layout offers thoughtful shot-making challenges balanced with accessible play for a range of golfers.

Course Overview

Set along the windswept Outer Banks of North Carolina, The Currituck Club offers an 18-hole public course that challenges golfers with a links-style layout shaped by coastal breezes and natural dune formations. The course is defined by its open fairways and strategic bunkering, which collectively demand thoughtful shot placement and a steady tempo. Its design encourages a balance of power and precision, making it engaging for players seeking a test without overwhelming complexity.

The Currituck Club’s terrain reflects the region’s distinctive coastal character, with gently rolling fairways framed by native grasses and undulating greens that bring subtle breaks into play. This openness allows the persistent Atlantic winds to influence every round, pushing golfers to adjust trajectory and club selection as conditions shift. The natural environment integrates with the layout rather than imposing itself upon it, creating a setting where nature’s elements become an integral part of the challenge.

Playability at The Currituck Club leans toward players with some experience, as the course’s length and wind exposure reward tactical thinking over sheer distance. While approachable for those eager to sharpen their skills, beginners may find certain holes demanding, especially if the winds intensify. The course’s overall design supports a rhythm of play that flows steadily but advises patience during busy periods.

Beyond the course itself, the clubhouse offers essential amenities including dining options and a pro shop geared toward servicing visitors and locals alike. Although golf carts are available, many players choose to walk—an immersive choice that invites attention to shifting winds, the crunch of coastal grasses beneathfoot, and the subtle roll of slick putting surfaces.

For visitors planning a trip to Corolla, North Carolina, The Currituck Club combines scenic seaside golf with a layout that rewards strategic play. Bringing clubs suitable for wind and firm turf is recommended, alongside comfortable footwear for navigating sandy areas. The course’s public access ensures that golfers at varying levels can embrace its character, where the coastal environment continually shapes each round’s narrative.

Course is completely burned out and in terrible shape…they don’t ranger the course so you are on your own for a 5 hour round. All for the low low price of $200. Pretty sad, used to be a decent course.

Similar to another review that I just read, our experience started fantastic. Someone greeted us in the parking lot, grabbed our bags and loaded them into our cart, And told us to proceed inside in that our car will be waiting for us by the range. Very quickly things went a little sideways.. We were in the middle of hitting range balls and were asked to start 15 minutes early (didn’t get to finish warming up). We signed up to play nine holes as a twosome and we got paired with two others. While we are not the best golfers in the world, we were thankful that they were not either so we were all just having a good time. At hole 5 the marshal showed, threw his hands in the air, and with an attitude proceeded to say “what’s going on guys? You have a hole and a half open ahead of you and you’re about 12 minutes off pace.” Literally threw off any good time we were having and honestly ruined the rest of the day for us. Course was beautiful but being a grown man and being spoken to like I was a child holding up the line was ridiculous. $100 for 9 holes and didn’t get to enjoy them the way we intended. 10/10 won’t recommend/return.

Conditions were very disappointing for the price. Played and only saw 1 other person on the front nine with us. Every single bunker had a bad rake job from previous players. Given the handful of people that played the day we did, it seems the grounds crew hadn't raked the bunkers in days. For what they charge it's not excusable. And as others have mentioned, a ton of unfixed ball marks on the greens, which again says grounds crew is not up to the job. I'm from the northeast just outside NYC so its very populated and courses see 250+ players a day. They look better than this course for 1/3 the price. Staff is super nice, but the couple minutes you interact with them doesn't justify the greens fee. Avoid. Carts are old and don't have GPS either. I understand they probably don't have the staff they normally do during the peak summer months. But don't charge the same price to customers as if you are still paying a full staff.

Played golf twice during our stay in Corolla. The course is a great layout and was in excellent condition. On the first day we played, it took over five hours and we waited on every tee box. I was hopeful that the marshall would help, but like so many clubs, they just apologize. The second round was much more enjoyable and pace of play was better.
