Shalimar Pointe Golf Club

Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USANorthwest Florida

Shalimar Pointe Golf Club delivers an 18-hole challenge along Florida’s Emerald Coast, combining water-lined fairways with multi-tiered greens. This affordable course tests shot variety and strategy, making it a playable option for a broad range of golfers despite some ongoing course conditioning upgrades.

Course Overview

Located just outside Fort Walton Beach in Shalimar, Florida, Shalimar Pointe Golf Club presents an engaging challenge set within a spacious, somewhat parkland-style layout. This 18-hole, public course stretches just under 7,000 yards with a par of 72, inviting players who enjoy strategic shot-making in a coastal Floridian environment. The course’s routing highlights water hazards that come into play on several holes, demanding thoughtful club selection and precision. The greens feature multiple plateaus and undulations, offering an often tricky putting surface that rewards creativity and sound course management.

Shalimar Pointe leans toward a player who wants to test a variety of shots, from precise layups to confident draws and fades around water. Although the course’s conditioning has seen mixed reports—especially concerning the state of the greens and fairways—it still holds appeal for budget-conscious golfers seeking a scenic round where risk and reward intertwine. The wide fairways protect mid and high handicappers from excessive punishment, but challenge remains for low handicappers aiming to attack the pin.

The clubhouse acts as a central hub, equipped with a pro shop and a restaurant that has earned praise for welcoming hospitality, even if the pro shop service has faced some operational hurdles. Walking is possible on the mostly flat terrain, though golfers typically opt for carts. Early morning or late afternoon tee times can offer the best pace and conditions, especially given Florida’s climate.

For those planning a visit, awareness of the course’s maintenance status is wise. Recent renovations focused on water lines suggest improvements are underway, aiming to elevate turf quality and overall experience. The course’s price point remains competitive for the region, providing value against more costly options nearby.

Shalimar Pointe is a course that encourages thoughtful strategy over raw power without demanding flawless playing conditions. It offers locals and visitors alike a chance to engage with a layout that challenges the mind as much as the swing, layered within a natural coastal Floridian setting that holds promise for continued growth and refinement.

Course Highlights

Shalimar Pointe’s layout includes water hazards that come into play on multiple holes, demanding accurate shot placement. The greens feature varied plateaus requiring subtle touch and creativity. While course maintenance is undergoing improvements, the design offers a rewarding test of strategy with risk-reward elements and a variety of shot shapes.

This golf course is convenient to Fort Walton beach but is not on good shape. The layout isn't terrible and the staff is super nice, but the course is not even close to being worth $83, even with golf on the Gulf coast being expensive. Honestly, I don't have super high standards as I just need good greens and grass in the fairways and tee boxes. Greens at this course were especially bad and the tee boxes were below average. Hopefully with the right level of focus, they can get some of the greens in better shape.

Terrible service in the pro shop. We called ahead to make a tee time and were booked for a foursome. We arrived and their system was down. They allowed us on the range to waste our time, we constantly checked in to see if the system was functioning, and they were not able to figure it out. Never gave us suggestions on what we could do. We watched three groups tee off and asked what they did. The finally told us the made tee times online, so we said we will do that. Then they said “oh if you would’ve paid 5 minutes earlier, you could’ve played but I just closed all the tee times.” So what you’re saying is you could’ve suggested that idea an hour before? But somehow failed to have the cognitive function to try to make this course money? Braindead individuals working in the pro shop. However the ladies in the restaurant were as nice as could be they.

Course has a super cool setup that leaves you with several approach shots that force you to go at a green over water and other cool shots, but course is in dire need of repairs. Greens are half dead/dirt, fairways look more like rough, and pretty much all of the bunkers look like someone just took shovel fulls of sand and put them in a hole and then never really bothered to do anything else to them after that. It is one of the cheapest options in the area and the staff was very nice but, I’d suggest just spending a little extra and go to a course that is better maintained.

Played here a week ago and I am not understanding the hate. Everything was in good condition and you can't beat the price for the Destin area. Really cool setup and some gnarly greens with multiple plateaus. I would play here again in a heartbeat.

First off…. I read some recent reviews on here and almost didn’t play here… we ended up going out and I really enjoyed this course. It’s a Pete dye course and has and absolutely beautiful layout and is challenging and a bit tight on some holes. The course itself was in average shape but honestly for the price of 60 bucks in the Destin area it’s a bargain. They did aerate the greens recently and they were really bad and we knew that going in, but this course requires you to hit a multitude of shots…. Draws, lay ups and has a lot of risk reward… I would recommend it if you read this. Just don’t go there expecting the course to be in great condition because it is not. The staff was also great… and some of the members I chatted with. They replaced all the water lines and were expecting it to get in much better shape in the near future. Overall I would highly recommend this course it was a blast.
