Set among northern Vermont’s gentle hills, Stowe Country Club is an 18-hole private parkland course featuring firm greens, strategic bunkering, and natural elevation shifts. Players of varying abilities will find a thoughtful challenge balanced by warm New England hospitality and inviting club amenities.
Course Overview
Stowe Country Club offers an 18-hole private layout set within the rolling hills of northern Vermont, combining classic parkland elements with the natural contours of its mountainous backdrop. The course stretches just over 6,200 yards from the back tees, presenting a par 70 challenge that rewards thoughtful shot-making rather than brute power. Each hole unfolds with subtle elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers that protect well-guarded greens, demanding precision and course management.
The setting is quietly dramatic, with fairways winding through mature hardwood forests and open meadows, all framed by views of the nearby Green Mountains. The terrain’s natural undulations shape holes that balance risk and reward, while occasional blind shots add an element of mystery to the round. Greens are noted for their firm, fast surfaces with undulations that invite careful reading and delicate touch.
Stowe Country Club's course structure invites players across skill levels to engage with its varied layout, though low handicappers will find the subtle complexities and hilly terrain a humbling test. Its slope and course rating suggest a moderate challenge, yet the firm greens and Vermont rough frequently push golfers to the limits of their accuracy. Walkers are welcome and encouraged, with well-maintained paths and signage guiding players safely through the course without sacrificing the natural rhythm of play.
The clubhouse anchors the experience with a welcoming atmosphere, featuring classic New England architecture and the added charm of Kirkwood’s Pub, where fresh, generously portioned fare and local hospitality greet players after their round. On-course conditions are generally excellent, reflecting attentive stewardship even through the variable weather typical of the region.
For those planning a visit, sturdy footwear is advised due to gentle slopes and occasional soft spots in the low-lying areas during wetter months. Stowe Country Club combines refined playability with a quiet Vermont character, offering a round that blends natural beauty and thoughtful design into a memorable golf outing.

All I can say is wow! Only the back 9 are open, but what a great 9 holes! Beautiful course! We stopped in Kirkwood’s Pub for a beverage and food, and again wow! The food was fresh, big portions and super friendly staff!

Such a beautiful place to grab food and drink. The Nashville hotdog is the goods.

well kept course - staff is friendly too to out of towners like myself. The fairways are so bumpy, only pet peeve. Also it gets dusty if you are behind another golf cart on some paths. Other than that, it’s a challenging course, and from the Vermont rough grass, ouch! August 2021 played, course and weather were fantastic.

Fantastic course and well maintained. Not the most difficult course but great location with beautiful views. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Staff was great, excellent grass range and practice area(s). Putting green adjacent to the first tee is nothing like the greens you’ll find on the course. It is flat and slow compared to what’s out there. Course has a great layout, is in excellent condition and the times are spaced well enough apart where the pace of play was great. The low spots were soft but that’s to be expected with the hilly terrain and all the rain VT has seen. The signage telling where you to take the carts and where not to was spot on. Here’s my one “complaint”. The slope and rating for this course is NOWHERE near what it should be. I’m a 5.5 handicap and played the back tees which is 6255 yards on the scorecard with a rating / slope of 69.6 / 119. My course handicap rated to a 3 which is crazy low. Something around 71 / 128 would be much more appropriate. 119 is comical, not even close. Now the course isn’t the most penal or long but the hilly terrain, fast / undulating greens, a few blind shots and multiple OB / penalty areas definitely make it play much tougher than indicated. If you’re an average golfer and see the white tees with a slope / rating of 67.6 / 115, don’t be fooled. You will have a very tough time.

Course was in okay condition, could only play 9 of 18 holes due to construction. I was fully aware of price prior to playing, but there’s no reason with rentals 9 holes should cost $150 for what you get. I was fine with the price until playing the course. Carts have no screens, no marking on course whatsoever, bunkers have 4” rocks under the sand, half of the bunkers were torn up and had rock piles in them. Some bunkers were also completely full of water making them unplayable as well. There has been a lot of rain recently, but proper drainage would alleviate ponding to occur. Finally, there were mowers all over the course in the middle of the round. They would drive through fairways as were teeing off and ruined the flow of play. That should be taken care of at 6-7am not 10am. The public courses i play weekly cost $60 for 18 w/o rentals and are in better condition. Also workers are surprised they are losing members when an initiation fee is $15,000. You can’t charge that much and not have the basics dialed in on the course (screen on cart, groomed bunkers without boulders, signage, beverage cart??).

Very pretty golf course. Challenging but fun.

This is a challenging golf course. The tree boxes and greens were well kept and rolling nice. Fairways and holes were in good shape. I'd play there again.
