Towa Golf Club

Santa Fe, New Mexico, USANorthern New Mexico

Towa Golf Club in Santa Fe delivers an 18-hole public course with mountain-desert character, offering open fairways, strategic challenges, and panoramic views of New Mexico’s high desert. Ideal for players seeking a thoughtful round framed by piñon pines and mesas.

Course Overview

Towa Golf Club presents a compelling challenge set against the high desert landscape just outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. This 18-hole course blends elements of mountain and desert golf, offering wide fairways, ample native vegetation, and panoramic views of the surrounding mesas and distant peaks. As a public facility, it welcomes players of all skill levels who seek a course that balances strategic shot-making with a grounded, natural aesthetic.

The layout benefits from generous fairways lined with juniper and piñon pines, providing both shelter and scenic interest. Elevation changes are subtle but significant enough to affect club selection and ball flight, especially when the persistent desert sun heats the air. Greens are designed to reward precision, guarded by bunkers that demand careful approach shots. Golfers will find that wind conditions can vary markedly depending on time of day, adding a dynamic element to each round.

The course is approachable for mid to high handicappers yet offers enough variety and subtle complexity to keep better players engaged. Towa’s terrain encourages thoughtful play rather than power, with risk-reward scenarios woven into just about every hole. While the natural surroundings hold rustic charm, the overall condition and maintenance of the course have drawn mixed reviews, reflecting a need for continued investment in turf health and surface consistency.

Amenities on site include a well-equipped pro shop and a casual clubhouse that caters to visitors with food and beverage options aimed at a relaxed experience. Golf carts are available and equipped with GPS to aid navigation and course strategy. Walking is permitted but recommended only for those prepared for firm footing and desert exposure.

Playing Towa Golf Club offers a distinct southwestern golf experience where the arid landscape meets thoughtful design. It invites players to embrace both the physical and mental components of the game amid open sky and rugged views. Planning a visit during shoulder seasons or early morning rounds can offer more temperate weather and less wind, enhancing a round that tests both patience and precision.

Course Highlights

Towa Golf Club features an 18-hole layout that weaves through high desert vegetation and gently rolling elevation, with panoramic views of Santa Fe’s mesas. The GPS-equipped carts and friendly staff enhance the playing experience, while the desert setting provides a unique test of timing and shot selection.

Cool setting and interesting/fun design... unfortunately the condition of the course was not good. Now, in all fairness we played off season - Early April - but having been on many courses across the country it's very evident that they need to give the superintendent a much bigger budget. That said the staff was nice.

Word to the wise. Check before booking or playing. Atrocious conditions around the course that have apparently been going on for years. Fairways are unplayable unless you can find grass to place a ball on. Tee boxes are not much better. Greens were ok if you dont mind the bare parts around the collars of the holes. Course should completely shut down and rethink their groudkeeping options because what they are doing is not working. Its not just Alkaline water as told by some there its neglect. Not worth the $50 spent for greens fee. Also shame on Hilton/Buffalo Thunder for allowing it to be this way.

Normally this is 4 star to my standards but an issue I seen that wasn’t per se golf course related but they can do what they want. The front nine looked great the back nine needed a little more maintenance but they had weather issues that may cause them problems. The golf carts ran great plus they have the GPS to help you out. The pro shop had options for what you may want clubs balls outer wear. The staff was great and no issues with that. The issue I seen was with the chef of police which you may or may not run into in the parking lot he accused the driver of the cart I was in going to fast. (How fast does a cart really go). He was very confrontation to the driver of the cart and said “if you don’t like what I’m saying get off this land and never come back”. Placed on that I can’t really recommend this place due to the reservation police being rude and power hungry to be mean to non native people.

A fantastic golf resort that is sadly in terrible condition currently. Great staff and prices, but half of the entire course is ground under repair right now.
