Quail Run Golf Course
Quail Run Golf Course presents a well-kept 9-hole course in Santa Fe offering precise shot values within a compact mountain-influenced layout. Known for meticulous conditions and a service-focused pro shop, it provides a challenging yet accessible round amid New Mexico’s dry landscape.
Course Overview
Quail Run Golf Course offers a distinctive 9-hole layout that provides both an accessible and engaging round for golfers visiting Santa Fe. Located at 3101 Old Pecos Trail, this course is best suited for those seeking a shorter, well-maintained golfing experience with a focus on precision and shot-making. With immaculate fairways and greens, the course demands accurate play through its narrow corridors and thoughtfully positioned hazards, rewarding those who can navigate with care and strategy.
The terrain reflects classic mountain course traits, with subtle elevation changes and arid surrounds that challenge approach shots. The fairways require a deliberate tee shot, while the putting surfaces invite careful green reading. While the course can be especially inviting under Santa Fe’s bright, dry skies in the warmer months, conditions shift sharply in winter when the course’s natural dryness can affect playability and course firmness.
Quail Run’s 9-hole arrangement does not overwhelm and is ideal for players looking for a focused round under two hours or an intimate venue to sharpen short-game skills. The pro shop staff comes highly regarded for friendly service, making the outing approachable and welcoming. However, as a private community course, public access is limited, and visitors should prepare for entry protocols.
The course’s setting feels quietly intimate rather than grandiose, with the arid New Mexico landscape lending a character that asks for precision over power. Walkers will appreciate the relatively flat routing with soft footing, although sturdy shoes are recommended to handle dry ground textures.
For those planning a visit, mornings and late afternoons offer comfortable temperatures and the best light for reading greens. Quail Run may not boast sprawling championship length, but its condition and thoughtful design present an enjoyable challenge that encourages improvement through tactical play in a distinct Southwestern environment.
Course Highlights
Quail Run offers narrow fairways flanked by natural sandy areas and scrub typical of Northern New Mexico. The course demands thoughtful club selection, with greens characterized by subtle breaks rather than dramatic contours. The 9-hole layout suits players aiming for a quick, technical round emphasizing control over distance.

Me and my brother are visiting Santa Fe from out of town. We googled public golf courses and this is the first location that pops up. When we arrived the security guard tipped his hat at us as we stopped. We assumed that meant to proceed. He then chased us down in his security vehicle and scolded us for not stopping.. we did stop and he acknowledged us.. if this is a private golf course the memebers are getting ripped off it looks like a public course and the staff is clearly not professional. My first suggestion would be to teach the young man at the front gate how to speak to people. He’s the first person you interact with coming into your facility and he was terrible.

This is a private course and community. But when you google public course this comes up. The security was extremely rude for no reason whatsoever. Looks like the dumpiest private course I’ve ever seen
