Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe Golf Course

Santa Fe, New Mexico, USANorthern New Mexico

Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe offers a rare high desert links-style experience at an accessible price. This 18-hole public course pairs open, breezy fairways with expansive mountain views, rewarding accuracy in a rugged Southwestern landscape.

Course Overview

Located just a few miles from downtown Santa Fe, Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe offers a distinctive public golfing experience on the high desert plains of New Mexico. This 18-hole layout extends over a sprawling 6,700 yards with a par set at 71, designed to challenge golfers while providing a true links-style atmosphere in an unlikely setting. The course embodies an open, breezy character defined by natural grasses, wide fairways, and rugged bunkers that demand respect and accuracy from tee to green.

The course’s flat-to-gently rolling terrain reveals sweeping views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains beyond, with the desert environment asserting itself through patches of native grass and open sandy areas. While the greens currently show signs of transition and recovery with variable conditions, the layout’s strategic design encourages thoughtful play. Golfers who favor precision over power will find the fairways a clear reward for keeping shots straight, while missing short or long puts one into deep and complex roughs that emphasize control.

Marty Sanchez is approachable for players across skill levels, with wider fairways and multiple tees that accommodate both novice and seasoned golfers. The course tends to play best when the wind is moderate, as gusts can add an element of unpredictability typical of traditional links golf. While some maintenance challenges have been noted—especially relating to the greens and fairway consistency—the management’s ongoing efforts reflect a commitment to improving playing conditions.

Players should be prepared for a walking round, as the terrain is mostly flat but demands endurance due to its length and arid climate. The pro shop and snack bar provide needed comfort and essentials, staffed with friendly personnel ready to assist. Overall, Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe stands as an accessible, affordable choice for those seeking authentic links-style golf paired with expansive vistas and a unique Southwestern character.

Course Highlights

The course is characterized by its links-style layout in a desert setting, combining wide fairways with deep rough and natural grasses. Its openness exposes play to winds that test shot-making and pace control. Views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains frame the experience, while bunkers and native terrain influence strategy. The course’s evolving maintenance reflects a commitment to enhancing quality over time.

Played this course in Santa Fe and was really let down. The “greens” were in terrible shape—barely playable. You couldn’t even putt in a straight line with how bumpy and patchy they were. Fairways didn’t really exist—just dry dirt and dandelions scattered around. To top it off, the course ranger told me I was lagging behind, even though I was clearly waiting for the group ahead to clear. The only reason this isn’t a 1-star review is because the price was decent. But overall, it felt more like a neglected field than a golf course.

First time ever play here. It was a nice experience. The staff inside the pro shop and the snack bar were friendly. The course was laid out nicely. Some of the greens and fairways were a little patchy or not really regular grass. Some bare spots some cracks in the ground. For the most part though you were hitting off really nice grass if you stayed in the fairway. If you got off the fairway into the rough it was deep, deep, deep. You better keep it straight at this course. Would I play it again? Yes I would do I recommend it? Yes I do give it a try and have some fun

Played on July 4th. Course better than reviews. Beautiful layout. Beautiful views. Great pace. Good value. Still tons of dandelions but course is laying out herbicides next week. Fairways solid. Bunkers good. Greens still bumpy and shaggy but recovering. Should be up to speed in a few weeks

Creve course great challenging holes just needs some TLC the rough is too rough fairways should be groomed and the greens definitely need some pampering. It's not cheap but not expensive either Just a maintenance kept up would be most appreciated and well deserved and it would make it an awesome course

In general have loved this course over the years. Great layout, staff and usually pretty well maintained. Played last week and the greens are in as bad of shape as I've ever seen-everywhere else on course was fine. Know they are working on improving this but no way to putt reliably at moment
