Set against the dramatic Sierra Nevada foothills, Greenhorn Creek Resort offers an 18-hole championship layout combining mountain and parkland influences. Golfers encounter rolling elevation and expansive views that challenge strategy while inviting players of various skill levels to experience its unique terrain.

Course Overview

Greenhorn Creek Resort presents an 18-hole championship golf experience set along the dramatic foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada near Angels Camp. This public resort course stretches over 7,000 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, inviting players to navigate a layout where rolling elevation changes and diverse landscapes craft both visual appeal and strategic challenges. The course’s design blends elements reminiscent of mountain and parkland styles, with wide fairways bordered by native grasses and groves of oak and pine that influence shot selection. Each hole offers a balance of risk and reward shaped by undulating greens guarded by bunkers that demand precision and thoughtful course management.

The scenery commands attention from every vantage point – views extend across the valley floor with the Sierra peaks framing the horizon. Morning rounds often reward golfers with crisp, clean air that settles over the land before afternoon breezes test swing tempo, adding a layer of complexity especially on the exposed ridges. Playability favors golfers with solid fundamentals but also offers enough challenge to engage those seeking to sharpen their game. Strategic elevation shifts compel creativity off the tee, while the greens’ subtle breaks require careful reading to avoid costly three-putts.

On-course conditions and maintenance have elicited mixed reviews, noting areas where turf quality is uneven, especially with some issues in tee boxes and bunkers. However, the course’s natural layout and overall setting remain highlights for visitors. Amenities complement the golfing experience, featuring a well-equipped clubhouse where after-round dining and refreshments provide a welcome respite.

For those planning a visit, midweek mornings typically offer the most consistent pace of play and course conditions. Walkers will find terrain moderately demanding; sturdy footwear and awareness of elevation changes help ensure comfort throughout the round. Golf carts are available, though some prefer walking to better absorb the environment’s nuances. Greenhorn Creek Resort promises a blend of challenge and beauty that rewards respect for its land and layout.

Course Highlights

Greenhorn Creek Resort features significant elevation changes with panoramic mountain vistas that influence wind patterns and shot strategy. The course layout integrates natural foothill landscaping, combining parkland fairways with rugged terrain pockets. The large greens are protected by diverse bunker placements, demanding precision, while several holes reward creative shot-making through elevation shifts and crosswind challenges.

Was on vacation and had vouchers for a golf round here, called to book a tee time and they would not let me because it was “too hot.” Was planning on playing in a cart where it is manageable in the heat but was not allowed to due to them closing early (was only 4:30pm). Don't believe their hours at all. Highly unsatisfied.

Greenhorn is a top tier golf coarse and one of the best in the valley. While very challenging, the coarse is a par 72 that still plays very fun and pushes new golfers to be better golfers. After playing a fun 18 holes, stop by the club house for a cocktail or beer and enjoy a delicious meal. The food is great and the service matches all the above. Can't wait to go back!

$95.00. The course is in terrible shape. The greens need repair and the tee boxes are uneven. Crab grass everywhere. My party of 8 were very disappointed and pretty sure all of us will not go back.

Played golf...the course was challenging but fair and in pretty good shape. Tee boxes were uneven in places but overall a lot of fun.

Didn't enjoy this course. Crab grass everywhere including it looks like on the greens making the ball dance. Bunkers are hard dirt and rocks. Tee boxes are un even and like hitting out of the rough but the fairway would be rough on good courses. 110$ to play this which is laughable for this place. Save your money
