Spring Hills Golf Club

Clinton, Ohio, USANortheast Ohio

Spring Hills Golf Club delivers an approachable 18-hole layout ideal for beginners and casual players seeking a laid-back, budget-friendly round. Set along quiet country roads in Clinton, Ohio, this public course challenges golfers with faster greens and natural surroundings that prioritize playability over complexity.

Course Overview

Spring Hills Golf Club stands as a modest, approachable 18-hole course located amid the rural landscape of Clinton, Ohio. Managed as a public facility, it offers an experience steeped in straightforward, no-frills golf that caters especially to beginners, casual players, and those seeking affordable access to the game. The course’s layout is compact, stretching just over 5,200 yards with a par around 70, emphasizing shorter holes and a playable design rather than length or elite difficulty. The setting features broad fairways that blend into natural grassy areas, though the distinction between fairway and rough can be subtle, influencing how players approach shot placement and recovery.

Fairways interchange with patchy cart paths, and players often find themselves navigating sections where grassy terrain replaces worn or uneven paths. This contributes to a rustic atmosphere, though it also demands attention to footing and club selection, particularly after wet weather. The greens present a noticeable contrast with their speed and responsiveness, challenging golfers to adapt their putting touch to avoid overhitting. Careful reading and pace control become essential skills here.

While the course’s infrastructure and maintenance have received mixed feedback, the overall environment remains welcoming and functional. The clubhouse is basic and could benefit from updates, but it serves as a hub for players to gather before and after rounds. The club’s location along country roads contributes to a quiet, relaxed golf outing removed from hectic urban centers.

Spring Hills particularly suits players who value playability over elaborate architectural features or pristine conditioning. The course can test tempo and shot control without demanding long drives or complex strategy, making it accessible for novices and a decent tune-up spot for seasoned golfers. Those planning a visit should arrive with sturdy shoes for uneven terrain and anticipate a laid-back setting that emphasizes golf’s fundamentals.

In all, Spring Hills Golf Club provides an honest, budget-friendly option in Ohio’s collection of local courses. It invites players to enjoy the game in a straightforward, uncomplicated landscape where ease of access and friendly surroundings define the experience more than tournament-grade challenge or sophistication.

Course Highlights

Spring Hills is notable for its short, straightforward design set in a rural environment where putting on fast, receptive greens proves the most significant challenge. Unlike many courses, it offers a simpler, no-pressure layout that supports beginners and casual golfers while demanding some focus on pace control. Natural grassy rough blends with fairways, and cart paths may be limited to certain holes.

Unfortunately had an unpleasant time, staff attitude was very poor, made snide remarks and when questioned about the rudeness, kicked us off the property and told us not to return. Not the best experience as my first time golfing out of the military as a veteran. Wouldn’t recommend.

Called hours ahead and was told we didn’t need a tee time after 4pm. We showed up at 4:45 and asked if we could go out and he said there were leagues going on, so I simply told him what I was told on the phone. He said “nobody told you that” with an attitude like he was running a premier country club. I wouldn’t recommend coming here.

ummm. Just not a fan of Spring Hills. Its really short course and fairways are just not fairways. The rough and fairways are the same. It's early season and maybe they will improve. The greens were ok. I don't think anyone in Ohio knows what a ball mark on a green is or how to fix them!! I'm pretty sure its an Ohio thing. The staff was very nice and friendly but I just didn't care for this course.

10/1/23 Course layout is fine, but a bit confusing. Half of the time you can't tell where the next hole starts, and you have to drive 3 holes over to find the correct teebox. Cart path is rough or non existent. Course conditions were mediocre. Fairways wéren't horrible, but the teebox and greens were a mess. Some greens were unplayable if you missed on the wrong side.(I took a picture is was so bad.) The price was just a bit too high for the quality of golf you can play. 32 for 18 is generally the sweet spot, but again, the experience left much to be desired. Probably won't be back. Nice idea of a local course, but conditions are an afterthought.

A bit of a countrified golf course buried on some back country roads but obviously very popular with the locals. The teeing ground was a bit hard to get your tee in and the cart paths were so bumpy because of tree roots you had to use the grassy areas. The bright spot was the greens. So fast that I overputted almost every green. The clubhouse needs to be updated badly. It still has the odor of long ago cigarette smoke and no draft beer.
