Coyote Creek Golf Course

Fort Lupton, Colorado, USANorth Metro Denver

Coyote Creek Golf Course in Fort Lupton offers an inviting 18-hole public course blending approachable fairways with strategically placed water features. Its natural setting and variety of hole lengths create a balanced test ideal for golfers of all levels seeking a rewarding round near Denver.

Course Overview

Located in Fort Lupton, Colorado, Coyote Creek Golf Course offers an approachable yet engaging 18-hole public layout that balances playability with subtle strategic challenges. The course weaves through a gently rolling landscape where water features and native grasses shape the playing experience, providing visual interest and occasional hazards that test club selection and shot execution.

Designed to welcome golfers of varying abilities, Coyote Creek’s fairways are generous, making it accessible for those still developing their game, while the longer par 4s and par 3s on the front nine demand thoughtful navigation from more skilled players. The greens present a reliable putting surface that rewards precision without overly penalizing minor misreads, contributing to an enjoyable pace of play when groups keep steady.

The setting is defined by its natural elements, with pockets of native grass adding texture along the bunkers and marshy areas lining several holes. One of the course’s notable qualities is the interaction of water, which comes into play on multiple holes, creating both a visual focus and an element that encourages strategic thinking. Standout holes include several longer par 4s on the front nine, where length and accuracy become crucial, as well as par 3s bordered by water that require steady nerves.

Coyote Creek offers adequate practice facilities, including a driving range with maintained turf and a dedicated putting area, ideal for warm-ups and refining short game skills. While not extravagant, the clubhouse and pro shop maintain a welcoming atmosphere with attentive staff ready to assist visitors and locals alike.

Golfers considering a visit should prepare for a course that strikes a balance between challenge and accessibility. Walking is permitted and relatively comfortable due to the mostly flat topography, but players may also opt for carts. Considering potential seasonal conditions, early morning tee times are often preferable to avoid crowds and take advantage of cooler temperatures.

In summary, Coyote Creek Golf Course stands as a solid public option in the Denver metro area. It combines practical layout design with thoughtful course features that encourage improvement while delivering an enjoyable round amid the foothills’ natural surroundings.

Course is always in great shape, but the pace of play today was atrocious. I made the turn in 2 hours and 35 minutes, asked for a raincheck and left. Listen, if the golf course really does take the feedback seriously, I'd seriously consider doing two things to help with pace of play, and one of them is free. 1) Remind all groups playing during a prime tee time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday what the expected pace of play is for the course. Remind them how pace of play is defined, and remind them to let groups play through if they do fall behind. 2) Mow the native areas down. I didn't think of this today until I got home, but that stuff is thick and is likely attributing to pace issues if the course hasn't noticed it yet. As always, keep up the great work I'm looking forward to coming out again soon.

My wife and I played Coyote Creek for the first time yesterday and we had a wonderful time. Affordably priced, nice grass range, and the course was in great condition. The greens were a little slower than I’m used to but they held good shots and rolled true. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of water on the course and I didn’t expect, but really enjoyed, the longer, difficult par 4s on the front. I also liked the longer, challenging par 3s and overall, the nice mix of tougher and easier holes. Even though Coyote Creek is about 40 minutes from where I live, I’ll definitely play it again soon.

Came to have fun with a buddy of mine and was disappointed. Was accused of leaving divots which was 100% BS. Was expecting to be treated with respect and wasn’t. Don’t come here if you are of color :)

Nice enough course. Holes are pretty straightforward, nothing super challenging. Nice range and putting area as well..

With all due respect to the gentleman who gave this course a negative review based on having played it in June of 2022, I will say I strongly disagree with his assessment and critique. I have played various courses in the North Metro area that compare to Coyote Creek in price point and style including both Riverdale courses, Buffalo Run, Thorncreek, Legacy Ridge, Hyland Hills and others. I played Coyote Creek with my dad on the 4th of July and in my opinion, it definitely measured up! The course was in fine shape. As seen in some of the pictures I have posted here, there are some weeds and dead sections. However, MOST of it is found far away from the fairways and greens. There was some extra growth in the bunkers, BUT the majority of it was found in the fairway bunkers, and NOT the greens. Speaking of the greens, they were in GREAT shape, cut nicely, and surprisingly lush for mid-summer. They rolled very true on every putt. The only reason my ball didn't drop every time was because I didn't read the green correctly, NOT because of the conditions. We even came across a beautiful turtle crossing the 7th fairway on his way to the water feature that lines the hole and protects the green. The $63 price point was a little steep, but it was a holiday, and normally, it isn't that high, even on weekends during peak season. The staff was very friendly! One employee greeted us with a smile as we arrived and was very accommodating. Madeline in the Pro Shop was VERY nice and hospitable. So, yes, while the course IS NOT without blemishes, they are MINOR at best, and overall, it is in good shape and a fun place to play. If golfers want courses that are completely green with no blemishes ever and perfectly manicured greens and fairways, they should join a Country Club. If they want a relatively affordable public course that is a friendly environment and is in good shape, Coyote Creek is a solid option for sure!
