Mark Bostick Golf Course

Gainesville, Florida, USANorth Central Florida

Mark Bostick Golf Course offers an engaging 18-hole, par-70 journey through gently rolling terrain in Gainesville. This university course balances challenge and accessibility with its strategic doglegs and carefully maintained greens, promising a rewarding round for a wide range of golfers.

Course Overview

Mark Bostick Golf Course delivers a compact yet demanding 18-hole layout that beckons golf enthusiasts looking for a test of precision and strategy in Gainesville’s heart. This university-owned course, while modest in length with a par of 70, challenges players with its uphill par 5s and tightly contoured greens that reward well-placed approach shots. The course folds seamlessly into an urban setting, its fairways and greens framed by mature trees and subtle elevation changes that add texture without overwhelming the player.

The playability of Mark Bostick stands out through its balance. While it offers a stern challenge for mid-to-low handicaps, the fairway widths and clear sightlines make it accessible for golfers refining their game. The brisk walk complements the course’s intimate footprint, encouraging players to engage closely with its nuances. Fans of strategic golf will find forced carries and doglegs that demand thoughtful club selection and a steady tempo.

Maintenance is generally solid, with well-kept greens that feature smaller, sometimes elevated, putting surfaces requiring deft touch and commitment. Bunkers and hazards are used sparingly but with purpose, lending emphasis to risk-reward scenarios on key holes. Despite its relatively compact design, the course avoids feeling cramped, allowing ample room to find safe zones off the tee.

As a university facility, Mark Bostick has a communal atmosphere but remains open to the public, encouraging visitors to experience its challenges firsthand. Amenities remain functional rather than luxurious, with a pro shop available though some reviews indicate room for improvement in service and communication. Walking is encouraged, and players should wear comfortable footwear suitable for the occasional incline.

Those planning a visit will appreciate the course’s location at 2800 SW 2nd Ave, convenient to Gainesville’s amenities. While the driving range and practice facilities are limited in size, the overall experience centers on engaging play through thoughtful design and steady course conditions. Mark Bostick Golf Course stands as a rewarding venue for golfers seeking a challenging yet approachable round in the region.

Course Highlights

Mark Bostick Golf Course is renowned for its tight, well-placed doglegs and small, elevated greens that demand accurate approaches. The course layout takes advantage of gentle terrain variations, presenting uphill par 5s that test stamina and shot shaping. Its location within an urban setting offers a unique contrast to typical Florida golf experiences, blending natural contours with a university-community atmosphere.

This is the worst run golf course I have ever been to in my entire life. The staff has no proper golf club training and I have never seen nor met the golf pros. This course’s beauty and maintenance is so awesome but wasted due to the service. Almost all the workers are rude and bland. The range is too short with bad mats and terrible range balls. The course is so often closed or blocked off for the 30 collegiate level golfers when the college golfers aren’t even there. The parking lot is not big enough as well. I really hope the management and the university can clean up the way the course is run and the staff, so the service can be equal to the level of shape the golf course is in.

A great, fun, and challenging course. Greens are small, slower than normal (this time), and elevated. A lot of doglegs and forced longs. Need high approach shots for balls to sit on the greens.

Played a round on 5/17/25. Course in good shape. My problem is not course related. After my round I left a Bushnell Wingman view Blue tooth speaker in the golf cart. When I realized my blunder the next day, I called the pro shop and no speaker had been placed with the lost & found. I then visited the pro shop and described the employee who was working the cart return when I left the cart there (1 employee and my cart was the only one there for return at that moment). Employee was off. There was no speaker in Lost & found. I filed a report with police and they could not find speaker in Lost and found. And then a miracle! The employee who was working the cart return area comes to work on Monday and he finds the speaker 👀 when no one else could locate it. The moral of the story is, don't lose anything at Mark Bostick GC. It's not a lost and found but a lost and keep over there unless the police are involved.

My first time playing a few weeks ago and course was in excellent condition it felt like I was playing a private country club. While the course is only a par 70 it is still very challenging with all the par 5’s uphill in some way or another. Despite its small footprint the course doesn’t feel overwhelming narrow and there is still some areas to miss. Would definitely recommend walking and cant wait to play again when I’m in the area.

Nice course but very poorly managed especially the pro shop. Really bad communication especially with tee times. One time I went and was told they were completely booked and didn’t see anybody on the 1st tee for the next 45 minutes. The range had been mats every single time I’ve went. They also need to work on updating their website because there had been multiple times i’ve gone for there to be a sign at the front saying that the course is close but there is no updates on the website. Nice course but really just has to work on customer service.
