The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort

North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USAMyrtle Beach Area

Designed by Pete Dye, The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort presents a strategic 18-hole layout defined by large waste bunkers and Bermuda fairways. This resort championship course offers a challenging and thoughtful test, rewarding accuracy and tactical play within the popular North Myrtle Beach golf destination.

Course Overview

The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach offers a distinctive golf experience shaped by one of the game’s most influential architects, Pete Dye. This 18-hole, resort-style championship course combines thoughtful design with demanding features that test shotmaking without overwhelming players of varied skills. Set amid gently rolling terrain, the layout showcases expansive waste bunkers that define the challenge. These sandy expanses often separate tee shots from the putting surfaces, requiring well-placed drives and measured approaches to avoid trouble.

Players will find the fairways lined with lush Bermuda grass, providing a smooth playing surface and framing the course’s strategic flow. The greens, known for their subtle contours and receptive slopes, reward precise putting and shot selection. Although the course challenges with carries over waste areas and smaller greens, it maintains a welcoming atmosphere for committed amateurs and low handicappers alike. Forward tees are available but tend to be lengthy, potentially posing more of a test for beginners and juniors.

Beyond the course, the clubhouse at Barefoot Resort offers modern amenities with a comfortable pro shop and dining options that cater to players finishing their rounds. Staff members are recognized for their helpfulness, providing valuable local knowledge and tips to improve your game. While busy times can lead to slow play, especially during peak season, the course’s conditioning typically holds up well, with well-maintained tees, fairways, and greens.

Walking the Dye Club is possible though the sizable layout and sandy waste areas may encourage use of carts for many. Golfers planning their visit should prepare for a round that demands strategic thought and patience, making it popular among those who appreciate courses that reward accuracy over raw power.

For anyone drawn to Pete Dye’s signature style—one that blends visual challenge with tactical depth—the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort provides an opportunity to encounter that design philosophy within the North Myrtle Beach golf scene. It is a course that invites focus, persistence, and respect for the elements shaping its play.

Course Highlights

Notable for expansive waste bunkers that challenge tee shots and approaches, the Dye Club exemplifies Pete Dye’s architectural style with strategic demands and visually striking elements. The Bermuda grass fairways and subtly contoured greens provide a consistent playing surface, while larger-than-average waste areas introduce risk-reward decisions throughout. The course is part of Barefoot Resort’s acclaimed group of courses, offering a distinctly modern yet classic Dye experience in the Myrtle Beach area.

Played our third Barefoot course today and they keep getting better. Dye course was excellent. Greens were in great shape and rolled true. The layout was challenging with smaller greens and several carries off the tee. The waste areas made this track unique but not punishing. That being said - the course was our favorite so far. Staff from pro shop to starters were very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend a round here.

Pricey Nice course, not crowded in Myrtle Beach SC. Tee boxes were nice, Fairways luscious, Bermuda greens nice and tight. Classic Pete Dye where it looks hard to get to the greens bit the greens are subtle and reward straight putts. Not really set up for Juniors or ladies as the forward tees were still quite long. They also didn’t have very many medium and no small shirt sizes so my son had to buy a ladies shirt, he wasn’t thrilled. I’ll also say they weren’t very helpful in the pro shop they don’t nothing to help us find a shirt or tell us where to go after we checked in. You’d think after spending $187 on round and a short they’d be more helpful.

After playing 18, we had definitely worked up an appetite. Lunch was served quickly and was delicious! Had the California turkey wrap and the buffalo chicken salad… both very tasty. Staff is amazing from start to finish. Super friendly and very kind. They really cater to ensuring a great experience for guests. Course was beautiful and in great condition. Lots of “bunkers” that aren’t considered bunkers (you can ground your club), but still keep you honest. I liked that I could have the occasional mishit and not be completely out of play. It’s probably a lot more challenging in the summer when the natural areas are in full growth mode. I’d be all-in to play here again. The replay option is nice where you can play one of the other Barefoot courses.

After playing eight rounds of golf in the Myrtle Beach area. this honestly was the course I was looking forward to the most and sadly might be the most disappointing, especially for the price! when we arrived I have never in my life. seen so many people waiting to tee off the bad boys were doing overtime. there must have been $60 to 70 bags waiting to be loaded up. tells me right away. they've overbooked literally. I've never seen anything like this and I've played golf for 20 plus years and do these outings all the time. talk about this lowest round of golf that was easily 5 hours and totally unnecessary. The conditions weren't up to par, especially when we had played courses the days before a third. the price you can imagine how disappointing we were with this. I know it's a resort. I know it gets overplayed but for Pete dye design the layout wasn't even all that intriguing. the waist areas were everywhere and again the conditions themselves were a little poor. add that to an absorbent price you have what me and five other guys agreed was our least favorite round of golf in the area. save your money. go north of the border and play the courses in shallotte Ocean Isle area. they are tremendous for the price. otherwise I would go to the south end and play around pawleys island. clubhouse was great merchandise, food etc. everything was really good in regards to that. it was really just the golf course not living up to expectations, especially for prices. upwards of $200. like I said we played courses that were far superior for under a hundred bucks that's a no-brainer.

The Dye Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach, designed by Pete Dye, is both stunningly beautiful and tough, with many waste (sand) areas. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and offered great tips for improving our game. The fees are affordable, too. Although I didn't play well due to frequently getting into the waste area, we had such a great time.

Course is beautiful and great shape. The staff however provided a difficult and disappointing experience. Customer service should be a focus.
