Long Bay Golf Club

Longs, South Carolina, USAMyrtle Beach Area

Long Bay Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus, offers an engaging 18-hole public layout blending coastal elements with strategic bunkering. Stretching over 7,000 yards, it invites golfers of all skill levels to test precision and course management amid wide fairways and natural dunes.

Course Overview

Long Bay Golf Club offers a compelling blend of strategic challenge and coastal charm in the heart of Longs, South Carolina. This 18-hole public course showcases a Jack Nicklaus design that emphasizes thoughtful shot placement amid natural sand traps and subtle elevation changes. Stretching over 7,000 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, Long Bay invites golfers to engage with its wide fairways while contending with well-placed bunkers that actively shape the playing strategy on nearly every hole.

The layout balances accessibility and difficulty, making it suitable for a broad spectrum of skill levels. While lower-handicap players find ample opportunity to test their precision and course management, mid- and high-handicappers will appreciate the wide landing areas and forgiving rough that allow for a satisfying round without overwhelming frustration. Sand hazards are a prominent feature throughout, demanding respect and rewarding well-planned approaches.

The course’s setting weaves natural coastal scenery into the design without overpowering the golf experience. Scattered pines frame fairways, and gentle dunes provide subtle elevation shifts, offering moments of visual rest between holes. The greens are generally receptive, though variations in condition have been reported, so checking recent course reports before planning your visit is advisable.

Player amenities support a comfortable day of golf, including a well-appointed clubhouse that serves as a central gathering spot before and after rounds. The staff’s dedication to attentive service improves the overall experience, from bag drop to the 19th hole. Walking is encouraged, with a course layout that's manageable on foot, though golf carts are available for those needing extra support. Sturdy shoes are advisable given occasional soft conditions following rain.

Long Bay Golf Club’s enduring appeal lies in its thoughtful design and the strategic demands posed by its natural features. Golfers seeking a coastal-style course that rewards planning and execution will find it a worthy destination. Attention to ongoing course maintenance and the welcoming nature of staff contribute to an inviting environment where both locals and visitors can enjoy quality golf in a relaxed, natural setting.

Played this course again for first time in 30 yrs in March, that is why you see Brown rough. one of my favorite courses in Myrtle. if you don't like sand shots you will not like this course. there is strategic sand traps everywhere. Jack did a great job designing this course and it's pretty forgiving. Only negative is some greens had some bare spots but didnt effect overall game. I would definitely play again. Overall our favorite course of the 3 we played this year.

Played here on Friday July 11. I played this course back in April and it was a mess, Greens were diseased and corroded, fairways looked like the rough, tee boxes were nothing but giant bare spots. Also at that time there was some Junior Girls tournament being held the next day, so they were there with a parent/family getting practice and some young girls were accompanied by coaches and groups as large as 8-10 people all playing a hole....felt like this was something paying customers should have been warned about before playing. I swore i'd never play here again, but i know some residents of Long Bay and they told me the course was in much better shape and it had been getting the TLC a golf course needs. I'm happy to report Long Bay is in much better condition than it was a few months ago. Greens aren't perfect, but worlds better than they were before. There was a good rainstorm the night before i played, so some parts of the fairways/rough/bunkers were muddy and/or soft, but that's to be expected. You could actually tell the fairway apart from the rough. Tee boxes were in much better condition as well. Long Bay is a well-designed course, so it's nice to see some attention being paid in keeping it healthy.

Off the bat, this is a terrific golf course with a super friendly and attentive staff! I really commend these folks. Everyone from the guys that get your clubs situated at the bag drop, the pro shop staff, bar/snack staff, the starter (who was really knowledgeable about the course, conditions, etc)...everyone. Really made it a great experience. I have read some semi recent reviews about the condition of the course and I can honestly say that the folks at Long Bay have been diligent to rectify any of the issues I've read about. Kudos to them! The course was in great shape. Mr. Nicklaus is a crafty devil...with his beautifully (and tempting) placed sand throughout. However, this has been a course I have always wanted to play. It did not disappoint. So much so, we decided to play it two days in a row. Thank you, Long Bay! Will be back!

Simply put - awful. Conditions way below par. Greens were the worst I've seen in a while, slow, bumpy, patchy with several damaged areas. Disgraceful to charge 80+ for an afternoon round (which took 5hrs due to lack of pace enforcement). Hope they turn it around, since it's one of the best layouts in the area.

Course layout is very fun! Definitely some good challenges! Only reason for the 4 stars were some of the greens were in rough shape! But would definitely come back
