Stone Mountain Golf Club

Stone Mountain, Georgia, USAMetro Atlanta

Stone Mountain Golf Club presents two unique 18-hole layouts that showcase Georgia’s landscape with water-lined parkland and wooded mountain terrain. Both courses offer a blend of strategic play and scenic variety, appealing to golfers seeking a diverse yet approachable challenge.

Course Overview

Stone Mountain Golf Club in Georgia offers two distinct 18-hole courses that challenge players with contrasting landscapes and layouts. The Lake Course winds around the scenic edges of Stone Mountain’s reservoir, presenting a classic parkland style with generous fairways and water features that demand strategic shot placement without overwhelming most golfers. This layout invites an enjoyable round for players of mixed abilities, balancing inviting tee shots with subtle undulations on the greens. The Mountain Course rises into the wooded terrain near the granite summit, featuring tighter corridors framed by mature pines and more elevated tees. It produces a more demanding test with well-protected greens and varied elevation changes that reward precision and thoughtful course management.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Georgia’s granite outcrop and forest, the club’s setting provides a quiet retreat from the nearby urban bustle while offering clear views of Stone Mountain’s rugged face. The peaceful contrast between water-lined holes on the Lake Course and the forested, shaded fairways on the Mountain Course allows golfers to experience two distinct environments within one venue.

Stone Mountain Golf Club emphasizes playability without sacrificing challenge. While the Lake Course tends to favor mid-handicap players and those seeking a pleasant, flowing round, the Mountain Course caters to low handicappers looking for length, tighter driving lanes, and subtle green complexes. Both feature well-maintained greens that present firm, true putting surfaces when conditions are favorable.

Amenities include a clubhouse offering dining and pro shop services, along with practice facilities that allow pre-round warm-ups, though recent reviews suggest variable course conditions, especially following winter weather. Golfers should plan accordingly and expect a mostly walkable layout with some options for cart use. The club’s proximity to Atlanta makes it a convenient destination for both local residents and visitors.

For those seeking a challenging yet accessible Georgia golf experience that combines water, woods, and mountain side terrain, Stone Mountain Golf Club provides a setting that engages golfers willing to navigate its subtle complexities while enjoying a diverse and scenic round.

Course Highlights

Stone Mountain Golf Club showcases two 18-hole courses with contrasting styles: the Lake Course offers water views and open fairways, while the Mountain Course challenges with elevation changes and tight tree-lined fairways. Both courses feature firm, true greens, scenic forestry, and varied hole configurations that require both strategic thinking and solid shot execution. The club's location beside Stone Mountain State Park provides a striking backdrop, making the visual experience as engaging as the golf itself.

Loved it. Area was scenic and course was well groomed. Greens are quick but fair and pace of play was great. I couldn't ask for better. Maybe I'd like to see more water on the course since drinking water and ball cleaners were non-existent.. But that's my only gripe.

Walk over from the campground and ate some lunch. The ribs were delicious on the special for memorial weekend. The sides could use a little help :) everyone was so nice. Especially the gentleman at the front door. No pictures of the food. I thought the old water faucet was cool

The most overpriced course in Atlanta. It blows my mind how they can charge a minimum of $80 a round and often north of $100 and have a course in such terrible shape! I’ve played municipal courses better kept than lakemont. Just a few years ago we played here dozens of times and it was our favorite. We stopped playing when the course dropped off and we couldn’t justify the expense. It’s been a year since I’ve played here and it’s only gotten worse. It’s sad. Take a look at the #10 tee box pic. All tees on one box with a cone and overgrown grass. The other boxes look like they’re slowly becoming bunkers. I won’t be back. I advise looking elsewhere if you’re willing to spend $100 per round

June 2025 It's hard to express how excited I was to play the Lake course! At a price tag of $125 one would expect top notch conditions, and facilities . Unfortunately this course is terrible! The greens are poorly taken care of, Fairways are full of bare spots. You'll have to pay $20 to get into the park and then pay another $125 to play a goat track! Carts looked to be 2nd hand. The driving range was small, you have to hope someone left an empty bucket to put range balls in. I travel all over the state to play golf, and this was high on my list, what a complete let down. enjoy the park but leave the golf clubs at home!!!

This course needs to be closed and redone. It is in terrible shape even for coming out of winter. We were putting through sand traps ON THE GREEN most of the day. Don’t spend your money here. Also, we teed off at 3:50 and then were told by a “marshal” on the course to be in by 7:15. Why have tee times that late, with no discount, and expect people to be done under 4 hours? This place used be pretty good 10-15 years ago. Greens have weeds. Fairways are awful. Tee boxes neglected. Too expensive for what it has become.

Both courses are great and in pretty decent shape. Staff were great. Pace of play leaves a bit to be desired, but overall not bad.

Challenging course. Hot day and didn’t see the cart folks except the turn. They don’t drive around evidently so come prepared.

Great facilities. Friendly staff and a gem in Atlanta Proper. Came here for a work trip and was so pleasantly surprised. Can’t recommend this course enough. The lake course is a lot more scenic than the mountain course.

First of all, I understand it is winter, but this course is in such awful shape I don’t see how it will recover as the temps warm up. Played the Lakemont course which has a nice layout, but the fairways are either muddy, washed out, or just bare. A couple of greens were okay, but they were all shaggy and most of them were bumpy with many bare or sandy spots. Bunkers (not that I was in many, haha) were mucky in most spots. Tee boxes also rough. Speaking of rough, if you happen to slightly miss a fairway there is no rough—mostly rocks, sand, or more muck. The range is a joke. First of all, $8 for a small and $17 for a large bucket is ridiculous. Maybe four or five empty baskets available which we had to hunt for on the range prior to getting the balls and the mats are so worn it felt like we were hitting off the concrete slab. Restrooms on the course were well placed but the women’s stalls did not have paper products. No cart person for drinks. There was water on the course, but the dispensers looked a little scary. I knew about the $20 entrance fee to the park, but it still annoys me that they charge the fee for golfers. We played with a special voucher deal my friend purchased for a Christmas gift but there is no way I would pay to play here unless the conditions drastically improve.
