Charlie Yates Golf Course presents a lively nine-hole parkland layout in Atlanta that tests precision with water hazards and elevation shifts. Its renewed greens and approachable design make it ideal for players seeking a quick yet challenging round.
Course Overview
Charlie Yates Golf Course offers a distinctive nine-hole layout tailored for both committed golfers seeking a brisk round and newcomers eager to sharpen their short game. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, this public course provides a compact yet stimulating golfing experience defined by its varied elevation and water obstacles that demand strategic shot-making. The course’s design balances challenge and approachability, making it a fitting destination for players of multiple skill levels.
Set within a parkland-style environment, Charlie Yates features fairways flanked with mature trees and gentle slopes that shape the rhythm of the round. Several holes require carrying water hazards, introducing a layer of risk and reward that tests club selection and precision. The greens have undergone noticeable improvements, recovering from earlier patchy conditions to now present a smooth and true putting surface, elevating the overall pace and quality of play.
The course’s compact yardage encourages nimble shot-making rather than overwhelming power, with a couple of par-3s extending longer than typical nine-hole layouts. Elevation changes amplify the sense of movement throughout the round, demanding thoughtful adjustments in stance and swing. Tight fairways and subtle slope elements provide moments of both challenge and satisfaction, rewarding accuracy over brute distance.
Players are advised to come prepared for walking as the course supports a pedestrian-friendly environment, but its undulating terrain recommends comfortable footwear and attention to footing, especially in damp conditions. The setting also offers occasional wildlife sightings, a quiet reminder of the natural surroundings amid an urban area.
While the driving range has received mixed feedback concerning turf quality, the course itself stands out as a revitalized gem perfect for an engaging round without requiring a full-day commitment. With friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere, Charlie Yates Golf Course remains a practical choice for golfers looking to combine technical challenges with accessibility in Atlanta’s golfing scene.

Front desk were nice people. Greens were in great shape. A short course with A couple par 4s where you have to carry a decent amt of water. A few tight fairways. Some nice elevation changes and slope. A couple longer par 3s. All of this made it fun and challenging

UPDATED Review: Updating to 5 stars now that the course, specifically the greens, are in MUCH better shape than last year. I had to stop playing here last year because some of the greens were mostly bare dirt and unplayable. I decided to give it a shot again recently and the difference is night-and-day. I’ll definitely be playing here more often! Original Review: Nice public course but overpriced for the quality and the fact it’s just 9 holes. It’s a fun and scenic course but the some of the greens seriously need a lot of work, even after the recent renovation.

If you want to completely destroy any confidence in your iron play, look no further than Charlie Yates and their driving range. Constructed from the softest manufacturing sand and loam, any bounce you’re used to from a firm fairway is sure to be missing. Instead, you’ll be digging holes to China. After a few 1 meter deep divots, you’ll become self conscious and stop hitting down on the ball, instead, focusing on anything and everything to not continue digging for natural minerals. If you’ve ever wanted to practice hitting out of a bunker, this is the place. What a shitty driving range, full of jumps, uneven, just what a disgrace.

Good quick par 3/4 course. Challenging with the uphills, but fun. Watch out for wildlife
