Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USALowcountry

RiverTowne Country Club presents a coastal 18-hole challenge with marshland views and strategic holes designed to reward thoughtful shot making. Its approachable layout welcomes golfers of various skill levels, enhanced by tranquil natural surroundings and well-appointed clubhouse amenities.

Course Overview

RiverTowne Country Club in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, offers an 18-hole championship course set within a coastal environment that balances challenge with accessibility. This semi-private layout weaves through gently rolling terrain framed by marshlands and tidal creeks, evoking the natural character of the Lowcountry without overwhelming less experienced golfers. Players will find a combination of strategic bunkering and water hazards that require thoughtful shot placement from tee to green, encouraging a steady and measured approach rather than brute force.

Designed to accommodate a broad range of skill levels, RiverTowne presents approachable fairways with enough risk-reward moments to keep lower handicaps engaged. The greens vary in speed and contour, demanding precise short-game control especially when coastal breezes influence ball flight. Although the course has faced mixed feedback regarding conditioning, particularly after dry spells or heavy rains, the routing remains compelling for golfers seeking a traditional coastal experience.

The setting reflects South Carolina’s distinct marshland beauty, contributing to tranquil vistas and a sense of isolation from urban life. Wildlife sightings, including herons and occasional egrets, add to the ambiance, complementing the soothing water views that influence both strategy and mood.

The club’s facilities support an enjoyable day of golf with a clubhouse featuring dining options and a pro shop for essentials and equipment. Walking is encouraged on this layout, with relatively gentle elevation changes and pathways designed to preserve the natural landscape. Golf carts are available for those preferring a more relaxed pace, making it suitable for players of all ages.

Visitors should plan ahead for seasonal variations, as the coastal climate can affect course conditions and playability during wetter months. Early morning tee times often provide calm winds and softer greens, enhancing the overall experience. RiverTowne Country Club represents a coastal golf destination that blends environment and design in a way that rewards thoughtful play while inviting enjoyment across the spectrum of golfers.

The course was in horrible condition, not worth 113$ big mistake. I told the guy no need clean the dust off my clubs. Greens were very patchy. Big disappointment. No one bother to mention terrible conditions don't waste your money.

Poorly maintained. Plays like a below average muni, shouldn’t have country club in the name. Immediately backed up a full hole by the second hole, then washed out with rain. If it rains for more than 10 minutes, the greens are toast. Feel that the course should be a bit more forthcoming with rain check policy if it’s credit and not refund.

Played here mid-April. Course was in good condition in spite of an extremely dry spring. The couse has a great layout which is challenging, but yet fair and playable. Look forward playing here again.

My wife and I played this course on April 30th. Starting with the fact that I play 135 to 150 rounds a year and last year alone I played in 8 different states, I feel qualified to give a prepared and knowledgeable opinion. This course had the worst conditions of any course I've played in many years, maybe ever. Let's start with the driving range where the balls looked like they had been dug up, like potatoes ( a filthy Pinnacle is an ugly sight) ...on the range there was NO grass, NONE ! As much as I don't like mats , they would have been a welcome sight. My skeletal system would have thanked me . What I didn't realize at the time, was that practicing hitting hardpan shots was perfect for my upcoming round. The fairways and rough had almost no grass as well. On a scale of 1-10, I would give the fairways a 2 at best . the rough would get a better score of maybe 4. The greens were actually the bright spot if you found yourself on the part that had not been "patched". They still had many bare spots but at least they were flat. If this were my course , I would close it to the public until I could get it back in the shape it needs to be in to charge money to play. In fact the members have to be embarrassed that people see their home course this way . Next time someone tells me they are a member there, I will pass along my condolences. Now the money . At over $100.00 dollars , this is ridiculous . Less than $50.00 is too much for what they are offering up. Some people .... like me ... look at the rates and factor them in to the decision of whether to play a course. If it's not at a certain price point I don't want to play it. At $ 100.00 and up , you have my attention, higher expectations, and I become very interested in playing there . Here it is not the case. I wish I had asked for my money back after I saw the driving range and practice putting green. The options in and around Charleston give golfers options . Though tee times can get tight I recommend looking elsewhere.
