Charleston National Golf Club
Charleston National Golf Club offers three distinct nine-hole layouts framed by tidal marshes and pine forests. This parkland-style course balances strategic water challenges with approachable playability, providing an inviting coastal golf experience near Charleston.
Course Overview
Charleston National Golf Club presents an engaging challenge for golfers seeking a blend of coastal Carolina character and thoughtful design. Situated in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, this 27-hole complex offers three distinct nine-hole layouts set against a backdrop of tidal marshes, shimmering creeks, and mature pines. The parkland-style course weaves through water hazards that demand strategic routing, while fairways lined with native grasses invite careful shot placement. This environment not only frames each hole with natural beauty but also subtly tests decision-making with golf holes safeguarded by marshlands that catch errant shots.
The course’s overall playability caters to a broad range of skill levels. While water and marsh hazards increase the stakes for higher handicaps, ample fairway widths and smooth putting surfaces encourage confident approaches. The greens are well-maintained and feature subtle contours that reward thoughtful green reading without overwhelming less experienced players. Those seeking competitive play will find enough complexity to sharpen their short game amid the course’s persistent coastal breeze.
Facilities at Charleston National elevate the experience beyond the fairways. The clubhouse serves as a welcoming hub, featuring dining options and lounge spaces where players can unwind after rounds. Recent upgrades to the cart paths and introduction of GPS-enabled carts contribute to smooth navigation and pace of play, while attentive staff provide friendly service throughout your visit. For golfers who prefer walking, the terrain is generally level with a few moderate elevation changes, allowing comfortable movement across the course with appropriate footwear.
Frequent marshland views and the course’s setting near Charleston’s waterways create a dynamic visual experience that evolves with shifting light and tides. Although the course demands respect for hazards and occasional wind conditions, it remains approachable for recreational golfers while delivering enough challenge for those eager to test their game. Charleston National’s combination of water-influenced landscape, thoughtful routing, and supportive amenities make it a compelling destination for players visiting the greater Charleston area.

Fun but often challenging g course with an abundance of marsh hazards, greens are well kept but the players could be a bit more diligent with fixing their divets. There’s always a friendly cart girl ready to supply you with snacks and drinks, most people who play here aren’t that terrible so pace of play tends to be pretty good. My pops said they just re did the cart paths and acquired new carts which def shows. All in all a fun local course.

Played here in April, 2025. Course is fun and in excellent condition. Well maintained. Beautiful surroundings and a very pretty course to play. Play was a little slow but we had so much fun we didn’t care. I’d return in a heartbeat.

BEST VIP membership I have seen. Staff and Starters try to get you out as soon as possible and the new cart paths and carts with GPS are a great improvement. Course is in great shape and the cart service is as expected, full and with cold drink options. Great clubhouse, wish there were more food options, but the dogs are huge, and service is excellent. Leagues are run well, and the course is very competitive. Bring your A game.

Too bad the course is decent and cart staff are nice because the guy in the pro shop ruined the experience completely. I went in to walk 9 holes and got up charged almost $50 from someone named Jake in the pro shop. Ridiculous. Wouldn’t even let me get a cart after I paid for one. I’m visiting from New York and all of the other courses I have played in the area have been fabulous with great customer service.

The golf course itself was good, offering a challenging and enjoyable experience. However, the management falls significantly short. The course was littered with trash, which detracted from the overall experience. The cart staff were unhelpful and seemed to hinder rather than assist, displaying a lack of professionalism and courtesy toward customers. Additionally, the marshal approached our group three times to urge us to speed up, despite the group ahead of us being only 20 yards away, making it impossible to play any faster. This lack of understanding and poor communication was frustrating and unprofessional, as it failed to consider the pace of play was dictated by the group in front. Management and staff should prioritize maintaining a clean course and fostering a respectful, customer-focused environment to match the quality of the course itself.

These green fees should be 40 bucks. Marshalls don’t know anything about golf and our tee time was 30 minutes late. This course and the staff have no knowledge or care about golf rules and etiquette. It you’re on a trip to Charleston, I would highly recommend NOT coming here. I’d be embarrassed to be a member at this club genuinely. Played 6 courses out here and this is the worst for sure.
