The Plantation Course at Edisto

Edisto Island, South Carolina, USALowcountry South Carolina

The Plantation Course at Edisto presents an accessible yet strategic coastal parkland challenge with 18 thoughtfully designed holes. Its blend of water-lined fairways, mature trees, and receptive greens creates a memorable round suited for players at every level.

Course Overview

Located on Edisto Island, South Carolina, The Plantation Course offers an engaging 18-hole public layout that uniquely balances challenge and accessibility. This course stretches just over 6,200 yards with a par of 71, presenting a compact yet thoughtfully crafted test that draws players of varying skill levels. Its design weaves through coastal lowlands lined with marsh views and mature live oaks, creating an ambiance where natural beauty quietly demands respect for shot-making precision.

The flowing, parkland-style routing features several holes guarded by water hazards that shift the focus from raw distance to strategic placement. Players will find that accuracy often trumps power as they navigate tight fairways flanked by ponds and wetlands. The greens are well-conditioned and receptive, rewarding careful approach shots with fast, true rolls that invite confident putting.

The course’s scenery changes subtly throughout the round, with holes offering glimpses of salt marshes and tidal waters that add a coastal character without the typical open winds of a seaside links. Instead, gentle breezes can influence club selection, making each shot an opportunity to practice thoughtful adjustments. While some holes require creativity around water, The Plantation Course leaves room to work the ball around hazards rather than simply forcing aggressive carries.

Players of all levels appreciate the course’s playability; beginners encounter fair challenges that encourage learning, while experienced golfers find enough nuance to test their skills and keep interest high over multiple rounds. The course is maintained to a high standard year-round, with smooth greens and well-kept fairways that allow for an enjoyable pace of play.

Beyond the course itself, the clubhouse offers a welcoming atmosphere for rest and refreshment. Edisto Island’s laid-back charm extends into the golf experience here, making The Plantation Course a destination that blends approachable golf with the subtle demands of coastal layout design. Whether visiting on vacation or returning regularly, players will find this course a rewarding and memorable addition to South Carolina’s golf portfolio.

My grandson and I played this lovely course and truly enjoyed our round. It had poured rain several days prior to our play date so it was cart path only but the course was in great condition. The greens were nice and the staff friendly!! Would love to play again. They had punched the greens earlier but they were almost recovered from that when we played.

I played The Plantation Course a few years ago while on vacation in Edisto. Some great views on the course and while it isn't a long course there are some tight holes and lots of water in play, so it can be challenging. I had some accuracy issues that day and did not score well (lots of water...), but I am looking forward to playing it again this fall!

This was my first time paying here but it won't be my last. Fun course. Nice greens and good layout. There is water but it's not a big deal. They give you room to play around it or over it. Wish I would have had more time to play several rounds. Next time!

Hands down best course in the area. A must play for any handicap. Play it every summer for 20 years plus and always play multiple rounds when in the area for vacation.
