Course Overview
Wrenwoods Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout designed to balance challenge with accessibility, set against the gentle lowcountry landscape of Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. This course stretches to just over 6,800 yards from the back tees, unfolding across rolling fairways lined by clusters of pine and live oak, providing a distinctly Southern golf experience that is both inviting and functional for a wide variety of players.
The course’s terrain gently undulates, creating natural movement that tests shot-making without excessive punishment. Fairways are generally generous, guarded by strategically placed bunkers that demand thoughtful positioning on approach shots. Greens run true and vary in size, rewarding precision and adding subtle breaks that keep putting interesting without being overwhelming. Although not a resort or private course, Wrenwoods maintains an approachable atmosphere well suited for casual rounds and regular play.
Players often note the conditioning varies with the weather and season, with the course offering lush fairways especially in dry periods. The practice facilities include a well-maintained driving range and putting areas that provide ample space for warm-ups or workshopping specific skills before teeing off. While golf carts are available, the course encourages walking when possible to better appreciate the layout’s flow.
Located within a military base, Wrenwoods carries a unique character influenced by its setting. It can present a quiet environment with moderate traffic, though pace of play sometimes fluctuates. Players should prepare for occasionally wet conditions following rain, which can affect turf firmness and playability.
Golfers looking for a day of straightforward, honest golf with minimal bells and whistles will find value here. Wrenwoods does not overwhelm with significant elevation changes or wild coastal winds but offers a focused experience defined by tight lies, well-kept turf, and a layout that invites both novice and more experienced players to test their routines.
With friendly staff and a setting that reflects the lowcountry’s calm ambiance, Wrenwoods Golf Course stands as a practical option for both repeat visits and casual players visiting Charleston. Planning to play midweek or during milder seasons can optimize conditions, while comfortable shoes and modest preparation will enhance enjoyment. The course presents a dependable golf outing where solid strategy and consistent ball striking remain the keys to success.

Played Wrenwoods this morning as a guest of a veteran. This was my second time on this track and found it to be in really good shape. The tee boxes were well kept. The fairways were lush. I rarely saw any dead spots and, the greens are in outstanding shape. For the price, it’s a fair challenge and worth the $52 guest fee. I gave four stars due to the cart paths and a beverage cart would be nice.

Wouldn't reccomend, greens are always in terrible shape, ball bounces like it has helium in it, if you ever want to less than 3 putt youre gonna have to stick it within 3 feet everytime

So first, the course is typically in good shape, except when it rains in which it is a mud pit for 2-3 days. And the staff are very friendly. The driving range and putting greens are both good. But I am tired of being stuck behind groups of 6-8 people who bring their kids and waste everyone's time, or people who drive their golf carts across the greens, or people who hit 7 drives out of bounds and continue to keep seeing up. It took me 3 hours and 45 minutes today to play 12 holes at which point I walked off the course. I'm not going to play here or recommend anyone else to play here until they decide to enforce literally any amount of standards on the course.

Course is in great shape, fairly fast greens roll well. Some of the Cart Paths resemble a Washboard, but apparently the Government just doesn’t have the money to support Recreation for the Military, but plenty to give away to Foreign Countries…

Was in town visiting some friends, went out to play this course, at the time it wasn't busy. Lady in the pro shop would not let us out to play unless we was walking. Her reasons was they only had 50 carts, so the carts were reserved for the tee times. I had never heard of any course making that decision unless there was a tournament scheduled. So, we could play, if we walked, but we can't play if we wanted to ride.. if they are letting folks off to walk, the would result in tee time (which apparently they had some open) freeing up carts.. so a few rounds would be finished before some tee times would start making carts available! Seems like a bad decision for a course that is NEVER full of players.. perhaps this is why the course is in not so great shape for what they charge!!
