Hudson Hills Golf Course

Ossining, New York, USAHudson Valley

Hudson Hills Golf Course in Ossining, New York is a public, 18-hole challenge shaped by rolling hills and tight fairways surrounded by mature woodlands. This course rewards accuracy and strategic play, offering a rigorous round for seasoned golfers amid a quiet, natural setting.

Course Overview

Hudson Hills Golf Course offers a demanding yet rewarding test for golfers seeking a challenging experience within a serene natural setting. This public 18-hole course is carved into the rolling terrain of Ossining, New York, where elevation shifts shape much of the play and require thoughtful club selection and precise shot-making. The course’s layout is characterized by narrow, tree-lined fairways that funnel players toward greens guarded by thick rough, making accuracy off the tee essential. Generous undulations on the greens lend further complexity, offering a putting surface that requires careful reading and confident strokes.

Set amid mature woodlands, Hudson Hills presents a visual contrast to typical parkland courses, with heavily wooded areas creating tight corridors that test control while pockets of open space allow for strategic risk-taking. The fairways are generally well maintained, though recent heavy rains can leave portions soft, sometimes resulting in standing water, especially in lower lying areas. Bunkers are thoughtfully placed to challenge driving accuracy and approach shots but do not overwhelm the layout.

The course does not permit golf carts beyond designated paths, and its rolling hills demand stamina and sturdy walking shoes, making it best suited for golfers comfortable with uphill and downhill walking. The absence of a driving range means players need to come prepared, though the practice putting green and enclosed chipping area provide some space to warm up. Hudson Hills is a strong test for intermediate and advanced golfers who relish a course requiring a mix of power, finesse, and course management.

The surrounding scenery enhances the experience without distraction, with quiet forest sounds and glimpses of the nearby Croton Dam Road providing a subtle backdrop. Hudson Hills’ design challenges both the body and the mind, rewarding those who approach each hole with a strategic plan. For golfers eager to confront a demanding test of skill within a peaceful yet vigorous environment, this course holds a distinct appeal.

Course Highlights

Hudson Hills is defined by its elevation changes and tight tree-lined fairways that require precision off the tee. The course’s rolling hills shape a layout that engages both strategy and physical endurance. The undulated greens provide a nuanced putting challenge, while the mature woodland setting frames each hole without distraction. Although limited in practice facilities, the course’s natural contours present a unique, authentic golfing experience.

Course was well kept and in good shape but the do not allow golf carts are only allowed on the cart paths so you wind up doing a lot of walking and, this course - Hudson HILLS - is very well named. Lots of going up and down. My legs were sore the next day. That’s never happened to me when I golfed previously.

Really Rude -I had a pretty frustrating experience with the workers at the golf course. It was surprising because I expected them to be friendly and helpful, but that wasn't the case. When I approached the front desk to check in, the staff member seemed annoyed and barely made eye contact. Instead of greeting me with a smile, they rushed through the process, making me feel like I was bothering them. It’s always nice when the staff is welcoming, but this interaction felt really cold. Also, when I asked a question about the course layout, the worker responded with a short and dismissive answer. It felt like they didn’t want to take the time to help me or provide any useful information. Overall, the rudeness from the workers really took away from the enjoyable atmosphere I was hoping for at the golf course.

Great staff...incredible views...tough course with a wide variety of holes...nice greens...scratch golfer for 58 years...can break par there but now from the 2nd shortest tees...old age compensation...

Beautiful course with great scenery and well kept fairways. Very wooded which makes for a tight and somewhat challenging course. Thick ruff (play with balls you won't mind losing). Unfortunately there is no driving range, they have a small cage and a decent putting green. Overall a nice place to enjoy a round of golf.

6/11/25 my first time here, played from the tips. What a great challenge, with some tight tee shots and skinny fairways but some more forgiving holes too. Fairways have decent protection forcing layups or risky shots on second shots Greens were kind of slow even around noon but the course was soaked from recent rain so that may be unfair. Minus one star for poor drainage in a bunch of areas, lots of standing water on fairways and even some greens. The standing water areas should at least be reduced given how much elevation change there is to work with here Otherwise this course is very well maintained; the tee boxes were mostly flat and not beat up, sand was decent, fairways had less than average divots in them, and the greens were undulated enough to be challenging but not impossible

To whom It may concern, I played Hudson Hills yesterday and had a less than satisfactory experience. First of all, there was nothing about the experience that justified the $122 greens fee, even though I was a guest of a Golf Westchester member. I was then approached by an aggressive starter who demanded to search the cooler in my cart, even though it belonged to my friend who was inside paying. Without permission he went into my friend's personal property. Thankfully he decided not to confiscate anything. The other cart in my group also had a cooler and he was not searched. I was not given an explanation for why I was selected. The pace of play was tremendously slow and there were no rangers on the course helping to move things along. The course was in good condition but very soggy and cart path only. Drinks and snacks from the cart girl were also exorbitantly expensive, $20 transfusions and $3 bags of potato chips. I am a resident member at Spook Rock Golf Course in Rockland County and I also worked in the pro shop for years at New York Country Club in Rockland and I was not impressed with Hudson Hills given the price. I can have a much better time for much less money at other Golf Westchester courses (I've now played all of them) and in Rockland for sure. I also won't be hassled by an aggressive and unfriendly starter for no good reason. There also was no real driving range at Hudson Hills and a small and crowded putting area I would recommend Maple Moor in White Plains and Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern over Hudson Hills. Wiltwyck in Kingston also has a similar aesthetic if you are looking for a hilly course with beautiful views of the Hudson Valley.

This is a fantastic public course! I have played many public and private courses and found this one to be one of the better public ones. I played on a weekday and easily finished in 4 hours (with a cart). The views/scenery were a big plus as well. Beware though, this course is challenging. For the first time in my life I had to buy balls at the turn after losing so many on the front 9. So for a novice golfer this course will be frustrating, but for intermediate and above golfers this will be a difficult but fun round. I will definitely be returning again soon.
