Hudson Hills Golf Course

Ossining, New York, USAHudson Valley

Hudson Hills Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout where rolling hills and dense woods shape a demanding test of precision and strategy. This course challenges golfers with elevation changes and narrow fairways while rewarding those prepared for its physical demands and keen shotmaking.

Course Overview

Hudson Hills Golf Course in Ossining, New York, presents an engaging challenge for golfers who appreciate a course defined by its natural topography and wooded surroundings. This public, 18-hole layout is distinguished by rolling hills that shape every tee shot and approach, requiring players to navigate elevation changes that significantly impact club selection and strategy. The course’s generous tree coverage narrows fairways and demands precision, making overall accuracy more critical than raw distance.

The experience at Hudson Hills is firmly rooted in its landscape. The ups and downs lend an invigorating rhythm to the round, though golfers should be prepared for a physically demanding walk, especially given the limited cart access constrained to paths only. Many players report soreness after their rounds, an important consideration for visitors planning their gear and stamina. The fairways and greens are well maintained, with subtle undulations on the putting surfaces that reward careful reading but do not overwhelm. Despite the course’s challenges, it offers a balance of demanding holes and more forgiving stretches where strategic play can pay dividends.

Hudson Hills does not feature a driving range but provides a small practice cage and a sizable putting green for pre-round warmups. This minimal practice setup reinforces the course’s focus on on-course shotmaking and deliberate play. While the course can be unforgiving—frequent tree-lined corridors and thick rough claim many golf balls—this aspect adds to its appeal for players seeking a test that demands accuracy and patience.

Throughout the round, golfers can enjoy verdant views of the Hudson Valley’s native woodland scenery. The combination of natural elements and thoughtful maintenance creates a setting that feels both rugged and approachable. While walkers may find the terrain strenuous, those prepared for a vigorous round will find Hudson Hills’s blend of scenic appeal and strategic challenge a rewarding destination in Westchester County.

Planning a visit during dry conditions is advisable, as historical drainage issues have occasionally led to standing water in low-lying fairway areas after heavy rain. For golfers seeking a public course that combines visual interest with a genuine test of skill, Hudson Hills delivers an experience that is both memorable and demanding.

Course Highlights

Hudson Hills demands accuracy through tight, tree-lined fairways framed by thick rough. Elevation changes influence club selection throughout the round, notably on several par-4s requiring uphill approaches and downhill drives. The lack of a full driving range encourages players to warm up on the practice cage and putting green, emphasizing course management. The landscape’s wooded character creates a focused, natural playing environment that highlights strategy over power.

Beautiful course with great scenery and well kept fairways. Very wooded which makes for a tight and somewhat challenging course. Thick ruff (play with balls you won't mind losing). Unfortunately there is no driving range, they have a small cage and a decent putting green. Overall a nice place to enjoy a round of golf.

To whom It may concern, I played Hudson Hills yesterday and had a less than satisfactory experience. First of all, there was nothing about the experience that justified the $122 greens fee, even though I was a guest of a Golf Westchester member. I was then approached by an aggressive starter who demanded to search the cooler in my cart, even though it belonged to my friend who was inside paying. Without permission he went into my friend's personal property. Thankfully he decided not to confiscate anything. The other cart in my group also had a cooler and he was not searched. I was not given an explanation for why I was selected. The pace of play was tremendously slow and there were no rangers on the course helping to move things along. The course was in good condition but very soggy and cart path only. Drinks and snacks from the cart girl were also exorbitantly expensive, $20 transfusions and $3 bags of potato chips. I am a resident member at Spook Rock Golf Course in Rockland County and I also worked in the pro shop for years at New York Country Club in Rockland and I was not impressed with Hudson Hills given the price. I can have a much better time for much less money at other Golf Westchester courses (I've now played all of them) and in Rockland for sure. I also won't be hassled by an aggressive and unfriendly starter for no good reason. There also was no real driving range at Hudson Hills and a small and crowded putting area I would recommend Maple Moor in White Plains and Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern over Hudson Hills. Wiltwyck in Kingston also has a similar aesthetic if you are looking for a hilly course with beautiful views of the Hudson Valley.

6/11/25 my first time here, played from the tips. What a great challenge, with some tight tee shots and skinny fairways but some more forgiving holes too. Fairways have decent protection forcing layups or risky shots on second shots Greens were kind of slow even around noon but the course was soaked from recent rain so that may be unfair. Minus one star for poor drainage in a bunch of areas, lots of standing water on fairways and even some greens. The standing water areas should at least be reduced given how much elevation change there is to work with here Otherwise this course is very well maintained; the tee boxes were mostly flat and not beat up, sand was decent, fairways had less than average divots in them, and the greens were undulated enough to be challenging but not impossible

Course was well kept and in good shape but the do not allow golf carts are only allowed on the cart paths so you wind up doing a lot of walking and, this course - Hudson HILLS - is very well named. Lots of going up and down. My legs were sore the next day. That’s never happened to me when I golfed previously.

This is a fantastic public course! I have played many public and private courses and found this one to be one of the better public ones. I played on a weekday and easily finished in 4 hours (with a cart). The views/scenery were a big plus as well. Beware though, this course is challenging. For the first time in my life I had to buy balls at the turn after losing so many on the front 9. So for a novice golfer this course will be frustrating, but for intermediate and above golfers this will be a difficult but fun round. I will definitely be returning again soon.

Really Rude -I had a pretty frustrating experience with the workers at the golf course. It was surprising because I expected them to be friendly and helpful, but that wasn't the case. When I approached the front desk to check in, the staff member seemed annoyed and barely made eye contact. Instead of greeting me with a smile, they rushed through the process, making me feel like I was bothering them. It’s always nice when the staff is welcoming, but this interaction felt really cold. Also, when I asked a question about the course layout, the worker responded with a short and dismissive answer. It felt like they didn’t want to take the time to help me or provide any useful information. Overall, the rudeness from the workers really took away from the enjoyable atmosphere I was hoping for at the golf course.
