Stratton Mountain Golf Course offers three distinctive 9-hole layouts set against the striking backdrop of Vermont’s mountains. Featuring varied terrain and thoughtful design, this resort course appeals to a wide range of players seeking both challenge and scenic beauty.
Course Overview
Stratton Mountain Golf Course, located at 251 Stratton Mountain Rd in Vermont, offers a distinctive golf experience shaped by its mountain environment and three unique 9-hole layouts: Forest, Lake, and Mountain. This public resort facility invites players of all skill levels to explore its varied terrain, distinctive design, and scenic elevations that challenge both strategy and shot execution. Each course presents its own personality, combining elements of ridge play, tree-lined corridors, and panoramic vistas that reward precision and patience.
The Forest Course is notable for its tighter fairways and elevation changes, demanding accuracy off the tee. Its undulating greens test putting skills while framed by tall evergreens that influence both wind and sightlines. The Lake Course offers a water-influenced setting, where several holes border or cross ponds, introducing risk-reward decisions and an open feel that balances playability with scenic beauty. The Mountain Course features more expansive fairways and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, with elevation playing a key role in club selection and shot trajectory.
The layouts combine for a total of 27 holes, allowing players to mix and match for varied rounds while enjoying well-maintained conditions and thoughtful routing. Although some elevation changes and tighter landing areas present a challenge, the courses remain accessible and rewarding for beginners and mid-handicappers, while offering subtle strategic complexities appreciated by higher-level players.
Beyond golf, the clubhouse offers dining with terrace seating overlooking holes, perfect for a post-round meal and to soak in the surrounding mountain scenery. The friendly and attentive staff enhance the welcoming atmosphere, assisting players with local insights and course conditions.
Visitors planning a round should prepare for elevation shifts and variable wind conditions common in mountain golf. Good walking shoes are recommended for those who choose to navigate the slopes on foot. Summer and early fall bring the best playing conditions and visual richness, with colorful foliage framing each hole.
Stratton Mountain Golf Course blends mountain charm with sound design across its three distinct 9-hole courses, making it a worthwhile stop for golfers seeking a memorable day amid Vermont’s elevated landscape.

This is a great course for beginners. I played all 3 (Forrest, Lake, Mountain). I felt the forrest was most challenging. All the courses were very well maintained. The views are awesome and so relaxing. The staff was great and very friendly. I highly recommend for beginners and can't wait to return.

I've been coming here for years with my friends and it is one of our favorites! There's nothing like Summer at Stratton and we always find time to play here. It's clean, it's quiet (generally) and the courses are fun and challenging. We do have a love/hate relationship with the Forest course (especially the 5th hole which must have been designed by a sadist) but I digress. The staff is incredibly helpful and attentive as well. Great place!

Outstanding views/scenery, decent shape (although greens rolling around an 8), some good holes (played Lake/Forest). A lot of elevation change. Silly tight in several spots. Potential to be an above average course architecturally, but you’d be looking at a significant overhaul of at least 5-6 holes. As long as your expectations aren’t for an excellent championship course, you can have a fun day out there.

Had Thursday morning tee time for a foursome. $115 per player for mid-week is a little pricey but heard good things about course. First got there and driving range closed for the morning, no warm up. Gas carts were old and tired. No windshield on ours and no divot mix. Saw beverage cart at clubhouse when we were teeing off and never saw it again, and it was a hot day. Course was in very good shape. Pace of play was excellent, we player in 4 hours. The course was a typical mountain course but seemed extreme. Lots of left and right hand turns, straight up a hill shots. A little too much hit a spot to mange the course. One par 5 we hit 7 irons to a spot to then hit three woods to get around a dogleg. Staff were not the most pleasant I have ever encountered. This final not the course but Stratton. We went to Stratton Village to have a nice lunch at Milligans (assumes it’s a golf themed restaurant?) does it open to 4 pm and only a breakfast place open in Village, drove to Dover and ate at The Saloon.

Beautiful golf course in lovely Vermont, with rolling g hills, a lake, and picturesque views of the mountains. Visited in the peak of the fall season and enjoyed a crisp, sunny day. Excellent service. Highly recommend.

course is great but the starter greeter is unfriendly. there doesnot seem to be a PGA clubhouse pro at the facility. I checked out for a corporate golf outing but would not subject my employees to the scary guy who mans the desk
