Norman Golf Course at Barefoot Resort

North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USAGrand Strand

The Norman Golf Course at Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach offers an 18-hole coastal parkland experience with thoughtful design and true, smooth greens. Its balanced layout suits a range of skill levels, combining wide fairways and forgiving front nine holes with a more demanding back nine that challenges accuracy and course management.

Course Overview

Located in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the Norman Golf Course at Barefoot Resort offers players a well-balanced 18-hole challenge designed by Greg Norman himself. This public resort course unfolds across gently rolling terrain that embraces a blend of coastal parkland and subtle elevation changes rather than stark coastal cliffs or links-style winds. The layout emphasizes strategic shot-making with fewer bunkers than expected and several sandy areas flanking the fairways that keep every tee shot honest without overwhelming golfers of moderate skill.

The front nine features broader fairways and relatively flat greens, making it accessible to golfers seeking a comfortable yet engaging opener. This section plays more straightforwardly, encouraging consistent drives and precise approaches. As the round progresses to the back nine, the course demands greater accuracy with tighter fairways, more bunkers in play, and subtle elevation shifts that test club selection and course management. This transition elevates the experience for mid to low handicappers looking to sharpen their skills without facing unrelenting difficulty.

The putting surfaces are widely praised for their true roll, rewarding those who spend time reading the subtle breaks. While the course includes fewer traditional sand traps, the sandy waste areas require thoughtful navigation, especially for longer hitters who risk running past fairway edges. Careful tee choice is advisable; playing from the correct tees ensures an enjoyable balance of challenge and playability, avoiding the frustration of overly long or narrow drives.

Amenities at Barefoot Resort complement the course, including a well-appointed clubhouse and a nearby bar and grill offering a welcoming atmosphere after 18 holes. Although the practice facilities are located a short distance away, shuttle service makes access convenient. The course supports walking, with friendly policies and tips recommending comfortable footwear to handle the modest hills and sandy ground.

Overall, the Norman Golf Course delivers a solid blend of strategic design and natural beauty with a player-friendly vibe, making it an appealing option within the larger Barefoot Resort complex. Whether you're exploring the Myrtle Beach area or seeking variety among coastal courses, this layout provides an opportunity to engage with coastal golf in a setting that rewards thoughtful play.

Course Highlights

The Norman Golf Course stands out for its strategic use of sandy waste areas instead of traditional bunkers, creating risk-reward opportunities off the tee. The course’s back nine introduces tighter fairways and elevation shifts that challenge players’ precision. Smooth, true greens throughout demand careful attention to pace and break. Positioned within Barefoot Resort’s offering of four distinct courses, Norman provides a contrasting style that appeals to those seeking a balanced coastal parkland layout with subtle yet effective challenges.

The Norman Course at Barefoot Resort, designed by Greg Norman, is a special but tough golf course with fewer sand traps and sandy areas along the sides of the fairways. It's a beautiful course, but it's my least liked one at the resort. If you're only there for a few days, I recommend playing the Fazio and Dye courses instead.

I can usually count on the courses being in great shape at the Barefoot. Played this course twice in the month of February this year, greens were in good shape. Playable, lots of sand and enough challenging holes to keep you on your toes.

Played mid May 2025. Course was in legit poor condition. Tee boxes were comically bad and beat up. “Bunkers” were trashed but they did get some rain previously which I get but my greens fee was full price and you expect a quality experience or fair warning. No turn or halfway house. So when it’s hot or when you’re hungry , you’re on your own. Bag guys were good. Greens were great to be fair. That was the best part. Front nine is basic. Back nine has more character. I would prob not play again right away until I heard of much much much better conditions.

This course was in immaculate condition. From the moment my group of 7 arrived, we felt welcomed by the staff. The cart staff is amazing and grabs your clubs and loads them based on your time. The bar and grill located next to the carts was great and a friendly vibe. The clubhouse was beautiful and easy to check in with. The range for the Norman, Fazio, and Love is located about 2-3 minutes away but they have a shuttle they will call that run constantly. The putting green ran true and actually gave us an accurate feel of what we had on the course. One thing I would suggest is to play the correct tees. A few in my group should have move back to the black tees because we were longer hitters and ran into a lot of trouble off the tee when we were hitting straight down the fairway. We outran a lot of fairways and found ourself hitting into skinny parts of the fairway. Had we played back we would have been fine. The course was beautiful and an enjoyment to play. I highly recommend giving this course a play and me and my group will definitely be back. If you want to see what the course looks like them hop over to my YouTube channel "Bro Golferz" where we play the Fazio Course.
