Norman Golf Course at Barefoot Resort

North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USAGrand Strand

The Norman Golf Course at Barefoot Resort offers an 18-hole test combining wide fairways and subtle elevation changes with sandy hazards that challenge precision. Designed by Greg Norman, this course balances accessibility with strategic demands amid the natural Lowcountry landscape.

Course Overview

At the heart of Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach, the Norman Golf Course presents a compelling blend of challenge and charm across its 18 holes. Known for its distinctive style crafted by Greg Norman, this course offers a walking-friendly layout with a mix of flat expanses and subtle elevation shifts that keep the round engaging without overwhelming players. The course’s design emphasizes fairway playability, featuring fewer traditional bunkers but presenting sandy run-off areas that demand strategic shot placement. These elements create a nuanced test where distance control off the tee and precision approaching the greens become vital.

The front nine unfolds with wide, generous fairways and relatively flat terrain, making it approachable for players of varied skill levels. This section encourages confident drives and straightforward shots toward greens that roll true but can be selective in speed and slope. In contrast, the back nine tightens with narrower fairways, more undulation, and greens guarded by sandy areas that provide challenge and character. Elevation changes here add variety and demand thoughtful club selection, testing players ready for a bit more complexity.

Scenic yet functional, the course’s landscape balances open sightlines with pockets of natural scrub and dunes that tie the course to the Lowcountry coastal environment. Conditions can vary, but the course has been praised for maintaining healthy greens and fairways when well-tended, offering an enjoyable playing experience that mixes order and subtle wildness.

For visitors planning a trip, the course encourages walking, supported by well-maintained paths and smooth turf. Players should consider tee selection carefully — some longer hitters find greater success from the back tees to avoid running through fairways too quickly and encountering tricky lies. Amenities include a nearby bar and grill that fosters a relaxed clubhouse atmosphere, with helpful staff ready to assist with carts and course info.

Whether seeking a competitive playday or a scenic coastal round, the Norman course challenges without alienating and delivers a memorable golf experience distinctive from the other courses within Barefoot Resort’s portfolio.

Course Highlights

Greg Norman's design emphasizes a strategic balance between open, flat fairways and tighter, elevated back nine holes where sandy run-offs replace traditional bunkers. The course’s coastal Lowcountry setting presents a natural environment with indigenous scrub and dune grasses framing many holes. The variation between front and back nine offers players a diverse test with an accessible yet challenging layout.

This course was in immaculate condition. From the moment my group of 7 arrived, we felt welcomed by the staff. The cart staff is amazing and grabs your clubs and loads them based on your time. The bar and grill located next to the carts was great and a friendly vibe. The clubhouse was beautiful and easy to check in with. The range for the Norman, Fazio, and Love is located about 2-3 minutes away but they have a shuttle they will call that run constantly. The putting green ran true and actually gave us an accurate feel of what we had on the course. One thing I would suggest is to play the correct tees. A few in my group should have move back to the black tees because we were longer hitters and ran into a lot of trouble off the tee when we were hitting straight down the fairway. We outran a lot of fairways and found ourself hitting into skinny parts of the fairway. Had we played back we would have been fine. The course was beautiful and an enjoyment to play. I highly recommend giving this course a play and me and my group will definitely be back. If you want to see what the course looks like them hop over to my YouTube channel "Bro Golferz" where we play the Fazio Course.

Played mid May 2025. Course was in legit poor condition. Tee boxes were comically bad and beat up. “Bunkers” were trashed but they did get some rain previously which I get but my greens fee was full price and you expect a quality experience or fair warning. No turn or halfway house. So when it’s hot or when you’re hungry , you’re on your own. Bag guys were good. Greens were great to be fair. That was the best part. Front nine is basic. Back nine has more character. I would prob not play again right away until I heard of much much much better conditions.

The Norman Course at Barefoot Resort, designed by Greg Norman, is a special but tough golf course with fewer sand traps and sandy areas along the sides of the fairways. It's a beautiful course, but it's my least liked one at the resort. If you're only there for a few days, I recommend playing the Fazio and Dye courses instead.

Very nice course. Greens in excellent condition on all holes. Front nine pretty flat, wide fairways flat greens some bunkers in play. Back nine more challenging. Tighter fairways more elevation changes and bunkers in play. Really enjoyed playing.

I can usually count on the courses being in great shape at the Barefoot. Played this course twice in the month of February this year, greens were in good shape. Playable, lots of sand and enough challenging holes to keep you on your toes.
