Barefoot - Love Golf Course

North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USAGrand Strand

Designed by Davis Love III, the Barefoot Love Golf Course offers a balanced coastal Carolina experience with open fairways, smooth greens, and scenic water features. This 18-hole layout caters to a variety of skill levels with approachable challenges set against historic plantation backdrops.

Course Overview

The Barefoot Love Golf Course in North Myrtle Beach stands out as a meticulously crafted 18-hole layout designed by Davis Love III, capturing the essence of coastal Carolina golf. This semi-private course offers a balanced mix of challenge and accessibility, appealing to a wide range of golfers from intermediate players to low handicaps. Its design highlights spacious fairways that invite confident drives while demanding precision around well-guarded greens. Water hazards and strategically placed bunkers subtly shape each hole, requiring thoughtful club selection and shot placement.

Set within the flat, coastal terrain of South Carolina, the course’s scenery is defined by shimmering water features, well-manicured landscaping, and mature trees that provide calm and shade without overwhelming the playing lines. Several holes skirt historic plantation ruins, lending a quiet historical reference and a unique visual contrast to the lush golf environment. The gentle breezes that sweep across the course test tempo more than power, creating an enjoyable test of skill rather than endurance.

Greens at the Love Course are known for their smoothness and true roll, encouraging confident putting but presenting subtle breaks that can surprise the unprepared. While the course maintains excellent conditioning year-round, players should be prepared for slower pace of play at times, especially mid-day or during weekends, as the layout draws steady traffic.

Amenities include a well-maintained practice area featuring a driving range and putting greens, along with a clubhouse that offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, though food service options can be limited during early hours. Walking is encouraged, and the primarily flat terrain makes for a comfortable round in soft spikes or golf shoes with good traction.

Whether seeking a casual round with friends or a focused challenge to sharpen scoring skills, the Barefoot Love Golf Course combines thoughtful architecture, natural coastal charm, and a playable layout that rewards both strategy and shot-making.

Course Highlights

Signature holes run alongside historic plantation ruins, combining water hazards and wide fairways with varying wind conditions. Greens are consistently well-maintained and offer subtle challenges. Designed by Davis Love III, the layout embodies a classic coastal Carolina golf experience with a focus on shot placement and course management.

No food in the clubhouse (unless u want breakfast sandwich stashed for lunch). Yum, cold eggs. No sandwiches (or anything) prepared for ppl teeing off in the morning. Cart lady has no food. Teeboxes haven't been cut in days. Bunkers are about 1/4" deep (at least the ones I visited). Not worth it. River Hills MUCH better condition. Tidewater much better if looking for higher end quality. As a bonus, you'll be waiting at minimum 5min between shots

Played it today and the course is in amazing shape. Be prepared though for a five hour round, but you get that with these great courses. Downside to me was that the cart girl only had light snacks. The course never takes you back to the pro shop until you finish the round so take a snack or some jerky if you need a meal at the turn. Group in front of us did play slow, but never saw a ranger speed them up. Water cart passed us once on the front and once on the back, which was not good on a 90 degree plus day. We did see the cart girl twice on each side. Would play again, just be prepared for slow play.

Nice layout but it rained on us every day except 1. The course was in good shape, not great. The greens were good, very smooth, not too fast. They only had one beverage cart for 3 courses so getting a drink wasn't easy. The beverage cart driver was very polite & helpful when we saw her

Such a great golf course. A lot of fun holes, the 4 holes near the plantation ruins are the highlight. Free range balls included and very friendly staff. The course was very well maintained also. Greens were pretty fast and taken care of. Overall, couldn't have asked for a better golf round.

I recently played a round at the Barefoot Love Course in Myrtle Beach, and I have to say, it was one of the most enjoyable golf experiences I’ve had in a while. The course is in great shape—lush fairways, smooth greens, and just enough challenge to keep things interesting without being punishing. Designed by Davis Love III, it has a really classic, Carolina feel with wide landing areas and some stunning visuals, especially around the water features. The staff was friendly, the pace of play was solid, and the whole vibe was just relaxed but professional. I’d definitely come back for another round.
