Fort Walton Beach Golf Course

Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USAFlorida Northwest

Offering two distinct 9-hole layouts, Fort Walton Beach Golf Course blends classic parkland design with gentle coastal influences. The Oaks course currently operates while the Pines undergo renovations, welcoming golfers seeking approachable play with natural Florida scenery and accessible amenities.

Course Overview

Fort Walton Beach Golf Course presents a classic Florida golfing experience with two distinct 9-hole layouts set amidst gently rolling terrain and native vegetation. Located on 1955 Lewis Turner Blvd in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, this public facility offers the Oaks and Pines courses, though as of mid-2025, the Pines course is undergoing green renovations and temporarily closed, focusing play primarily on the Oaks course. The layout combines traditional parkland styling with subtle coastal influences, where open fairways and scattered mature trees frame each hole, challenging golfers while rewarding careful shot placement.

The Oaks nine features moderately sized greens protected by strategically placed bunkers whose sandy edges demand precision on approach shots. While the course is accessible to golfers of all skill levels, those with a lower handicap will find elements to test their accuracy and course management, especially when wind conditions from the nearby Gulf occasionally influence play. The terrain is gently undulating rather than dramatically hilly, which encourages a steady walking pace and satisfies players seeking a relaxed yet engaging round.

Amenities include a clubhouse with a full-service pro shop and food offerings that cater to groups and families, enhancing the day’s overall experience. Course maintenance has seen some variability, as recent feedback notes a fair condition with occasional inconsistencies on greens and tee boxes, partly due to the ongoing renovations and seasonal challenges in turf growth. Despite that, the staff receives consistent praise for friendly service and attentiveness, making the course welcoming to both locals and visitors.

Designed for those who appreciate value without sacrificing character, Fort Walton Beach Golf Course suits casual players and those seeking an affordable round with straightforward pace of play. Walking is encouraged, with firm footing throughout the turf, and appropriate footwear is recommended. While the Pines course is temporarily closed, the Oaks layout continues to provide a solid test of golf in a pleasant Floridian setting, perfect for an easygoing round or first-time visitors to the area.

Course Highlights

The course features two separate nine-hole layouts blending parkland style with light coastal elements. The Oaks course offers fairways lined by mature pines and oak trees, well-protected greens, and bunkers that demand precise approaches. Current renovations to the Pines course focus on enhancing green surfaces. Recent course conditions show solid playability with areas set for improvement, supported by friendly and attentive staff.

Only the Oaks course is currently open due to renovating the greens on the Pines. Once the Pines opens back up in September I will update my review. Then Oaks is in fair condition. The greens can be bumpy and the speed seems to vary from day to day. But the course management appears to try to keep it up as best they can. But compared to almost all the other courses in the area, golf is very reasonably priced, especially if you purchase a membership and play a round once a week or more. Several holes could do with larger tee boxes, as the turf gets pretty beat up. Also, the tee boxes could use some refurbishment, as a number of them are severely crowned or sloped. Still, for this area, it's very reasonably priced.

I was enjoying my round until things took a turn. The group ahead told us to slow down — even though we weren’t rushing them. Out of respect, we did. But later, a course worker came up and rudely told us we were playing too slow. His tone was unprofessional and completely unnecessary. And was just watching us the whole time. It’s frustrating to get mixed signals and then be disrespected by staff. Golf should be a relaxing experience, not one where you’re talked down to. Please train your staff to treat players with basic courtesy.

I’ve never played golf while vacationing to Florida, but I’m so glad we started! This course is beautiful and I had a great time playing it with family. We will be back! Very friendly staff, good food, awesome course.

Played the Oaks course. Course was in okay shape, greens are a little weedy and fairways/tee boxes are decent. Overall a fun course and fairly easy to score.

Review date- April of 2025. Course is not in the best shape right now. Played Oaks, and if you don't hit the fairways you're playing in leaves and sand. Pines course right now is closed for renovation so lot of traffic on Oaks. I will say the staff is terrific, so there's that. Played here a lot during COVID and it was a great course for the money. I'd wait this season out here, unless you're desparate for a 9-hole rate which is getting hard to find in the area. Will update this review next year when renovations are completed.
