Hideaway Hills Golf Club

Edison, Pennsylvania, USAEastern Pennsylvania

Hideaway Hills Golf Club is a challenging 18-hole public course set in the rugged mountain terrain of Kunkletown, Pennsylvania. Offering steep elevation changes, strategic carries over water, and panoramic views, it demands thoughtful play and rewards precision more than power.

Course Overview

Hideaway Hills Golf Club, located in the rolling landscape of Kunkletown, Pennsylvania, presents an 18-hole public course that tests precision and patience at every turn. Carved into rugged, mountainous terrain, the layout demands not only length but thoughtful navigation across significant elevation changes. Golfers here must face blind shots regularly, where the fairways dip and rise sharply, challenging even seasoned players to find the ideal line. The course’s character is formed by steep downhill drives and uphill approaches, offering a dynamic range of shot-making opportunities seldom encountered on flatter terrain.

The playing surface is generous in places but well-guarded by natural and man-made hazards, including several holes that require carries over water, adding an element of risk-reward. While the greens generally hold firm and true, the fairways and rough can be uneven, with some areas prone to dryness, demanding careful club selection and strategic play. This is not a track for casual strolls; the terrain is demanding, and carts must often stay on paths, which themselves can be distant from the turf, underscoring the course’s rugged nature.

Players who cherish panoramic mountain views will find the visual rewards plentiful. Elevated tee boxes look down onto sprawling fairways and valleys beyond, immersing golfers in a wild, almost untamed landscape. On later holes, the sun’s angle drops low, putting timing and shot direction to the test.

Amenities are modest and rustic, reflecting the course’s natural styling rather than plush resort-level comforts. The clubhouse staff is praised for friendly, welcoming service that complements an experience focused squarely on the golf itself. Walkers should prepare for a physically taxing round, with sturdy footwear recommended to handle the uneven hills and the occasional necessity of carrying their own bunker rakes.

Hideaway Hills offers a genuine mountain golf challenge, suited to players who appreciate forced carries, elevation shifts, and strategic shot placement. It rewards those who approach it with patience and skill, making it a memorable destination for golfers seeking something beyond the conventional fairway.

Course Highlights

Significant elevation changes shape the course, with multiple blind shots and forced carries that demand strategic focus. Some holes cross water hazards, creating risk-reward scenarios. Elevated tees provide sweeping mountain views. The course’s rustic charm, combined with its challenging layout, makes it a unique destination in Pennsylvania’s golfing landscape.

This was my first time playing this course, and with just a few adjustments, it could easily be a 5-star experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming. While I didn’t bring any alcohol, it seems to be accepted here as no one inspected my cooler or asked about it. The course itself is both beautiful and challenging. It’s unique in that some holes feature two sets of white tees, which I haven't encountered on other courses. If you struggle to keep your drives straight, be prepared to bring extra balls, as many of the holes are lined with woods and involve steep uphill or downhill shots. There are also at least four holes where you need to drive over large ponds, adding to the challenge. On the downhill holes, I hit some of the longest drives of my life, but the uphill holes were a different story. The fairways and bunkers were all in great shape. Most holes had ball washers, but some didn’t have water or were broken, which was a minor inconvenience. Due to the hilly terrain, many holes are cart path only, and the paths can be fairly distant from the far edges of the greens or fairways. Another unusual feature is that you have to carry a bunker rake with you, which can be a hassle. If you find your ball in the bunker and forgot to bring the rake, it’s a long walk back to your cart. This can slow down the pace of play and feel disruptive. Speaking of pace, according to the sign in the cart, the expected pace of play is 4 1/2 hours. I played solo and it took me over 5 hours due to waiting on the groups ahead of me, which the starter had warned me about. While I don’t mind a leisurely pace, it’s not ideal when you feel like you are constantly being watched by the group behind you. In one instance, someone asked to play through, which I was willing to do. I pointed out that I wasn’t the one causing the holdup and the person elected to stay behind me. A few holes are set within a housing development, with houses lining both sides of the fairway. On hole 5, the house next to it has an honor system bucket where they sell golf balls for three for a dollar. haha. The scorecard lacked a map, and I found myself lost around hole 16 due to the lack of signage (there was no sign for hole 16), just a ball washer. On hole 17, if you’re playing later in the day, be prepared to hit directly into the setting sun, which can be blinding. I attached a photo, though it doesn’t quite capture how challenging that sun angle is. A bit of extra attention to the ball washers and improved signage would enhance the experience. Also, having rakes at the bunkers would be a better alternative to carrying them around. Despite these minor issues, it’s a unique and enjoyable course overall.

This is a spectacular scenic mountain golf course. The views are awesome. With panoramic views on the mountains and valley. This is definitely a course you need to play and want to play multiple times to get to know where to position your ball for the next shot. I was told there were 3 signature holes but I believe there are several that could qualify. I rated this course with 4 stars as the tee boxes need work and crab grass has taken over the tee boxes and a fair amount of the rough.

This is a mixed review. The golf course is OK. Severe elevation changes and a lot of blind shots make it challenging. The greens were good, fairways were OK, as were most tee boxes but the rough was burned out and cut way too short. Accommodations were rustic...at best, and could have used MORE than a little TLC. The lady bartenders in the clubhouse were fantastic. Overall, interesting course if you play the proper tees, but wouldn't necessary stay there again.

Hideaway Hills Golf Course is an excellent golf course. It’s one of the best I’ve played. The greens and fairways were in terrific shape. The elevated tee boxes that look down on course are a great addition. The view was beautiful. The service was professional and exceptional. I definitely recommend this course. I’ll be playing there again.

This is an update, the maintenance crew on this course could not have had a tougher year, they kept this place in wonderful condition considering the weather. I also want to mention the starter Dan we had this as he runs a really tight ship and keeps things moving. He is a very friendly person. I really don't want to share this but I will, the secrets out, this is the best public golf course in all of Pennsylvania. Unbelievable views and elevation changes. A huge challenge but fair. Hit the ball well and you will be rewarded. Takes about 4 1/2 to play because it is hard and must be thought out. If you don't play well expect to shoot very high scores. Consistently in good condition. Not for the novice golfer. We have played over 400 courses and this one is number one! Go tommorow! Note: This course can not be walked unless you are a Billy goat.
