Course Overview

Located in Knoxville, Tennessee, Whittle Springs Golf Course offers an accessible and enjoyable 18-hole layout for golfers of varying skill levels. This public municipal course embraces a hilly and parkland-style terrain, presenting players with subtle elevation changes that add dimension to what is otherwise a straightforward test of golf. Fairways are generally manageable in length, providing an approachable but engaging round without overwhelming high handicappers. A single dogleg hole introduces a strategic option, enticing players to weigh risk and reward as they navigate the course.

While the fairways show some wear in spots, Whittle Springs makes up for it with well-kept tee boxes and impressive greens that run smooth and quick—features that appeal to players who appreciate consistent putting surfaces. The grass surrounding the greens is maintained to support accurate approach shots, enhancing the overall playability. Ample practice facilities include a self-service driving range, allowing golfers to warm up or fine-tune their swing before heading out.

Whittle Springs benefits from a friendly, attentive staff who contribute to a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for both locals and visitors. Tee times and pace of play are generally well managed, resulting in minimal wait times even on busy days. However, the course offers little shade, so sun protection is advisable during warmer months.

Golf carts are available and operate smoothly, though many players find walking the course rewarding due to its moderate elevation shifts and walkable layout. The clubhouse is modest, offering standard amenities consistent with municipal facilities. While the dining options may be limited, the social vibe among players often compensates.

Whittle Springs is ideal for those seeking affordable golf in Knoxville that balances challenge and camaraderie. Its maintenance focus on greens and tee boxes, combined with the natural rolling landscape, creates an engaging round that rewards thoughtful play. Whether you’re sharpening skills or enjoying a casual round, this course offers a solid experience without pretense.

Course Highlights

Whittle Springs is a solid municipal course that’s well-kept and offers a decent challenge without being overly punishing. Most holes are straight and manageable in length, but there’s one dogleg that adds some fun strategy—go for it or play it safe. The driving range is a great perk for warming up, and the golf carts run smoothly. What really stands out is how little wait time there’s been both times I’ve played here—that’s a rare win for a muni. The only downside is the lack of shade, so bring your sun protection. My biggest gripe? The 19th hole. The clubhouse is pretty standard for a muni, but the roller dogs look like they’ve been spinning for hours. A fresh hot dog at the turn can really make a round, and this is where Whittle Springs could step it up.

Tempted not to write a review so other people don’t find this place. *For the price* you cannot beat this course. - excellent tee boxes - smooth, quick greens and nice grass around the greens - fun elevation changes It isn’t a country club but they put their money where it matters on the tee boxes and greens. It makes for a really enjoyable experience even if the fairways aren’t in great shape on some holes. I’ll make that trade every day of the week at this price point. Will definitely be returning.

Great local course with great golf carts. Greens are well maintained, and the staff is very helpful. You may have a golfer in your fairway occasionally. But this is a great course.
