Patriot Hills Golf Club

Jefferson City, Tennessee, USAEast Tennessee

Patriot Hills Golf Club in Jefferson City, Tennessee challenges players with an 18-hole layout blending strategic elevation changes and mountain vistas. Known for its variety of par fives and par threes, this private course offers well-maintained fairways and greens that demand thoughtful shot-making amidst tranquil natural surroundings.

Course Overview

Patriot Hills Golf Club offers a distinctive 18-hole experience framed by the rugged beauty of Jefferson City, Tennessee. This private course presents a challenging layout designed to test shot-making with a balanced mix of strategic par 3s, demanding par 4s, and generous par 5s. Six par fives and six par threes create an engaging rhythm, allowing players chances to both attack and defend across a varied terrain that maintains an inviting flow.

The course’s setting commands attention with panoramic views stretching toward the Great Smoky Mountains and the Nantahala Forest beyond the state line. Elevated tees and undulating fairways play off these natural elevations, while gentle mountain breezes influence shot choice and tempo throughout the round. The fairways, well maintained and generally generous, offer carpet-like lies that reward precision and creativity. Greens offer a compelling challenge with subtle breaks and varying contours demanding careful reading and delicate touch.

Patriot Hills appeals primarily to mid-to-low handicappers with its variety of blind shots and strategic hazards interspersed among the holes. Yet, there are scoring opportunities on several holes if precision and course management align. The back nine recently underwent maintenance that enhanced overall smoothness and speed, resulting in consistent putting conditions even late in the day.

On-site facilities include a driving range, which has a modest length of about 225 yards and restricts drivers, something players should plan for before arrival. The clubhouse serves as a comfortable hub for members, offering locker rooms and social spaces to unwind after play. Walking is encouraged throughout the course, and golfers should be prepared for moderate elevation changes with good walking shoes.

While Patriot Hills maintains a reputation as a well-kept course with scenic mountain views and a thoughtful layout, visitors should plan their tee times with pace-of-play considerations in mind, as rounds can occasionally extend due to limited marshaling.

For players seeking a demanding mountain backdrop with strategic design elements and a welcoming club environment, Patriot Hills presents a solid test and memorable scenery in East Tennessee.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its six par fives and six par threes, creating a unique rhythm of scoring opportunities and strategic challenges. Elevated tee boxes provide striking views of the Great Smoky Mountains and the Nantahala Forest, while fairways are known for their smooth, carpet-like surfaces. The driving range length is limited, with no driver use allowed, so warmups should be planned accordingly. The back nine received recent conditioning upgrades, improving green speed and surface consistency.

NOT FRIENDLY WITH NEW GOLFERS. I recently found some golf clubs and wanted to try golf. Me and a few friends came to Patriot Hills and payed for a round of golf. On our second hole we parked off the cart path and went to hit our balls, when an employee came and aggressively told us to get back on the cart path we complied and continued on our way. On the fifth hole another employee came and told us the leave, cussed us out for not knowing everything about golf, yelled at us for being slow and many other things. We left but wanted a refund for the 9 holes we didn’t get to see. After waiting on their boss we were told to just leave and that we were better off selling our clubs and never playing again.

Very nice course. Even in September the fairways still had good grass. Challenging par 3’s from the White Tees. #13 and #15 more than 170 yds and the wind was kicking the day we played. Plenty of scoring opportunities though because the course has 6 par fives and 6 par threes. Beautiful views of the Great Smokey Mtns. In the distance you could see the Nantahala Forest which separates TN from NC. Hope to get to play this course again next year.

The course is nice and usually plays pretty well. However, the few times I have gone it gets pretty backed up. They do not seem to care about pace of play at all. I have had a couple of rounds that took 5 hours or more. There is no ranger that is keeping up pace or a starter sending people off

I'm from WV, wife let me get 1 round in on vacay and I chose Patriot Hills after alot of research. Glad they had a range but BEWARE!! It's only about 225-230 and they do not allow drivers on the range, so no driver warm ups. That's where the negatives stop!! I got paired with 3 locals who were VERY COOL, they helped me out with course management and aim points on blind shots. The fairways were beautiful, carpet like. The greens were challenging to figure out, started out slow and wet, but when they dried, very quick and true. The back 9 looked to have been punched not so long ago but still rolled really well so it was a non factor really. The staff was great. We were stroke playing and had guys who were scrambling behind us, if you golf you know , 1 group scrambling is gonna play fast, we were on a 2 hour per 9 pace and they kept calling the clubhouse on us, ranger came by and told us but also said our pace of play was fine, he understood and just keep playing our game, he just wanted to be seen talking to us so they would back off. Very cool move. The conditions put almost all my courses back home to shame and it was even cheaper than any of em!!! I
