Patriot Hills Golf Club

Jefferson City, Tennessee, USAEast Tennessee

Patriot Hills Golf Club presents an 18-hole private course blending parkland and mountain terrain alongside stunning views of the Great Smoky Mountains. Renowned for its strategic par threes and varied layout, this course offers a refined golf experience with well-maintained fairways and challenging greens.

Course Overview

Patriot Hills Golf Club offers an 18-hole championship challenge set in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains near Jefferson City, Tennessee. This private course invites golfers to navigate a varied layout combining strategic demands with natural beauty. Sweeping views extend to the Nantahala Forest across state borders, providing a striking backdrop as you move through holes that blend parkland and mountain styles. The terrain undulates gracefully, shaping fairways that reward thoughtful shot placement while testing control and accuracy.

The course is known for a distinctive mixture of hole lengths, featuring six par threes and six par fives that create scoring opportunities amid the challenge. Long par threes in particular require precision, often playing into winds that sweep down from the ridges. The fairways are consistently well-maintained with lush, carpet-like grass, and the greens present subtle breaks and speeds that demand focused putting, especially as they dry out throughout the day.

Patriot Hills accommodates a range of skill levels but generally appeals to players comfortable with strategic course management. The front and back nines offer contrasting challenges, with the back nine having undergone recent enhancements to maintain smooth surfaces and strong playability. This variety keeps rounds engaging, whether you are aiming for your best score or simply enjoying the mountainside setting.

Practice facilities include a driving range limited to irons and hybrids, which encourages players to warm up with precision clubs rather than drivers. This unique feature underscores the course’s emphasis on shot control and thoughtful play. Golf carts make for an efficient pace, though walking is possible for those prepared for the gently rolling terrain; sturdy footwear is recommended due to natural surfaces and occasional elevation changes.

The clubhouse complements the golf experience with member-centered amenities, creating a welcoming environment to relax after play. While Patriot Hills prioritizes a traditional golf experience, guests are advised to arrange access through membership invitations. The staff maintains a respectful atmosphere focused on pace of play and course etiquette. This course offers a rewarding, thoughtfully-crafted golf day framed by the natural panoramas of eastern Tennessee’s hills.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its panoramic mountain views and a balanced variety of hole lengths, including six challenging par threes often influenced by shifting winds. Recent improvements to the back nine maintain smooth greens and fairways. A unique driving range policy allows only irons and hybrids, emphasizing precision and skill development. The setting combines the calm of parkland golf with natural elevation elements, making it a rewarding test for strategic golfers.

NOT FRIENDLY WITH NEW GOLFERS. I recently found some golf clubs and wanted to try golf. Me and a few friends came to Patriot Hills and payed for a round of golf. On our second hole we parked off the cart path and went to hit our balls, when an employee came and aggressively told us to get back on the cart path we complied and continued on our way. On the fifth hole another employee came and told us the leave, cussed us out for not knowing everything about golf, yelled at us for being slow and many other things. We left but wanted a refund for the 9 holes we didn’t get to see. After waiting on their boss we were told to just leave and that we were better off selling our clubs and never playing again.

The course is nice and usually plays pretty well. However, the few times I have gone it gets pretty backed up. They do not seem to care about pace of play at all. I have had a couple of rounds that took 5 hours or more. There is no ranger that is keeping up pace or a starter sending people off

I'm from WV, wife let me get 1 round in on vacay and I chose Patriot Hills after alot of research. Glad they had a range but BEWARE!! It's only about 225-230 and they do not allow drivers on the range, so no driver warm ups. That's where the negatives stop!! I got paired with 3 locals who were VERY COOL, they helped me out with course management and aim points on blind shots. The fairways were beautiful, carpet like. The greens were challenging to figure out, started out slow and wet, but when they dried, very quick and true. The back 9 looked to have been punched not so long ago but still rolled really well so it was a non factor really. The staff was great. We were stroke playing and had guys who were scrambling behind us, if you golf you know , 1 group scrambling is gonna play fast, we were on a 2 hour per 9 pace and they kept calling the clubhouse on us, ranger came by and told us but also said our pace of play was fine, he understood and just keep playing our game, he just wanted to be seen talking to us so they would back off. Very cool move. The conditions put almost all my courses back home to shame and it was even cheaper than any of em!!! I

Very nice course. Even in September the fairways still had good grass. Challenging par 3’s from the White Tees. #13 and #15 more than 170 yds and the wind was kicking the day we played. Plenty of scoring opportunities though because the course has 6 par fives and 6 par threes. Beautiful views of the Great Smokey Mtns. In the distance you could see the Nantahala Forest which separates TN from NC. Hope to get to play this course again next year.
