Jekyll Island Golf Club - Indian Mound Course

Jekyll Island, Georgia, USACoastal Georgia

Jekyll Island Golf Club’s Indian Mound Course offers an 18-hole journey through Georgia’s marshlands and mature oaks, emphasizing natural landscapes over manicured perfection. This course challenges players with narrow fairways and weathered greens, making it ideal for golfers seeking a raw, authentic lowcountry experience.

Course Overview

Jekyll Island Golf Club’s Indian Mound Course offers an unconventional golf experience that contrasts sharply with many resort courses. Located on Georgia’s historic Jekyll Island, this 18-hole layout plays amidst dense marshlands, mature hardwoods, and ancient live oaks draped with Spanish moss. The course channels a lowcountry ambiance rather than ocean vistas, creating a setting where nature claims as much attention as your golf shots. The landscape is alive with native flora and, on occasion, local wildlife like alligators can be spotted, amplifying the rawness of the environment.

This par-72 course covers around 6,700 yards from the back tees, and it tests players with its subtle elevation shifts and narrow fairways hemmed in by fescue and native grasses. Bunkers, while weathered, stand as stern obstacles, often guarding greens that respond unpredictably due to surface conditions. The Indian Mound layout is less manicured than its sister courses on the island, offering a more rustic feel that challenges golfers to trust their shotmaking more than relying on pristine course conditions.

Golfers should approach the course expecting a play-through shaped by the island’s natural contours and a fair share of uneven lies. This influences shot selection and demands careful club coordination, especially as some tee boxes and greens have seen wear over time. The course’s playability favors intermediate players and those who appreciate walking a course that emphasizes environmental integrity over flawless conditioning.

Amenities include a well-stocked pro shop and access to the club’s dining facilities, which receive high marks for service and atmosphere. Golfers venturing here should bring sturdy footwear suitable for varied terrain and prepare for the island’s mild but sometimes humid coastal climate. While Indian Mound may not satisfy those chasing perfectly maintained greens or oceanfront golf, it delivers an authentic, immersive round underscored by quiet natural beauty and a rare sense of seclusion.

Those looking for pristine conditions may consider the club’s other courses, but Indian Mound remains a distinct option for players seeking a more elemental golfing experience on Jekyll Island.

Course Highlights

Indian Mound’s setting amidst sprawling marshes and towering live oaks provides a distinctive lowcountry feel. The course’s layout challenges players with natural hazards rather than manicured bunkers. Its unpolished greens and weathered tee boxes create a play experience that relies on precision and adaptability. The standout feature remains the abundant native wildlife and the sense of isolation within the club’s resort complex.

Indiana Mound was good, Pine Lakes was better. Can't wait until Great Dunes is open. I'll be back the week of Christmas '25 and hopefully get in a round on the new course.

Pro shop has good selection, friendly staff from my experience. Range is basic no complaints or compliments for it. However , Indian Mound course isn’t worth paying $20. Worst greens I have ever seen on a course I would recommend paying the extra money to play one of the other courses in the area that are actually maintained to a standard. Your definitely only paying for island golf, and considering there 0 ocean views it’s kind of irrelevant. Highlight of the round is definitely the amount of nature you see. Lots of island life and even saw a good sized gator.

Staff friendly. Course on back 9 allows the wonderment of being in the low country. Just beautiful. Restaurant is amazing!

Pine Lakes - course was in great shape. For being less than a year old after the renovation it deserves 5 stars. Excited to come back next year to play it again.

Pine Meadows is in great shape - greens do not hold but are consistent. Indian Mound is a completely different experience. Many tee boxes are in rough shape, most greens have some type of burn impacting big portions, weeds everywhere. It’s shocking that these two courses are related…it’s like two different worlds.

Everyone there was pretty jerky. The people in the pro shop treated us like they were better than us and the starter was the worst. The range was like hitting out of a sand trap and was very uneven. The course wasn’t in the best shape but not horrible. The one thing I never saw is when I got to bunker and after I hit there was some green algae looking stuff which looked disgusting. Not worth the price and would recommend something like Heritage Oaks instead.
