Jekyll Island Golf Club

Jekyll Island, Georgia, USACoastal Georgia

Jekyll Island Golf Club offers a relaxed coastal golf experience on an 18-hole public course known for its parkland layout and abundant island wildlife. The Indian Mound course presents a straightforward journey that blends natural scenery and moderate playability in Georgia’s Lowcountry.

Course Overview

Jekyll Island Golf Club offers an 18-hole experience set within the unique coastal environment of Georgia’s Lowcountry. Located at 322 Captain Wylly Road on Jekyll Island, this public facility presents a course style that emphasizes a natural, parkland layout with calm, flat terrain framed by native vegetation and glimpses of the island’s diverse wildlife. Players will find themselves sharing the landscape with abundant bird species and the occasional alligator, adding an uncommon layer of immersion to each round.

The Indian Mound course is characterized by generously sized greens and a straightforward routing that, while accessible, challenges accuracy as it reveals wear in certain maintenance areas. Bunkers protect the putting surfaces, and several holes meander near marshy edges or coastal woods, where winds can influence shot selection and ball flight. The course plays to a moderate par and yardage, intended for golfers of varying skill levels seeking a relaxed yet engaging round without intense elevation changes or overly long drives.

Visitors appreciate the presence of a well-stocked pro shop with friendly staff, offering essential equipment and apparel. The practice facilities, including a driving range, are functional but basic, catering primarily to warm-ups rather than comprehensive training sessions. On-course amenities incorporate a restaurant that has been noted for its quality, providing a comfortable place to unwind post-round amid views of the island’s serene environment.

While some players have noted inconsistencies in course conditioning, particularly on tee boxes and greens impacted by environmental factors, the overall layout holds appeal for those who value wildlife encounters and a gentle coastal golfing atmosphere. The back nine, in particular, showcases the ecological charm of the area with marsh views and a quiet, contemplative setting.

Golfers preparing to visit are advised to bring walking shoes suited for uneven surfaces and to expect moderate breezes that influence play. Advance booking is recommended, especially during peak seasons, to secure preferred tee times. Jekyll Island Golf Club captures the spirit of accessible island golf without oceanfront views, focusing instead on natural surroundings and a straightforward round for golfers wanting a taste of Georgia’s coastal character.

Course Highlights

The Indian Mound course offers wide, open greens protected by bunkers and bordered by marshland and native vegetation. The back nine highlights the island’s natural Lowcountry environment with serene wetland views. The course challenges golfers with coastal winds and requires strategic shot placement rather than length. Unique among island courses, it emphasizes wildlife encounters and a relaxed pace over ocean vistas.

Indiana Mound was good, Pine Lakes was better. Can't wait until Great Dunes is open. I'll be back the week of Christmas '25 and hopefully get in a round on the new course.

Pine Meadows is in great shape - greens do not hold but are consistent. Indian Mound is a completely different experience. Many tee boxes are in rough shape, most greens have some type of burn impacting big portions, weeds everywhere. It’s shocking that these two courses are related…it’s like two different worlds.

Everyone there was pretty jerky. The people in the pro shop treated us like they were better than us and the starter was the worst. The range was like hitting out of a sand trap and was very uneven. The course wasn’t in the best shape but not horrible. The one thing I never saw is when I got to bunker and after I hit there was some green algae looking stuff which looked disgusting. Not worth the price and would recommend something like Heritage Oaks instead.

Pro shop has good selection, friendly staff from my experience. Range is basic no complaints or compliments for it. However , Indian Mound course isn’t worth paying $20. Worst greens I have ever seen on a course I would recommend paying the extra money to play one of the other courses in the area that are actually maintained to a standard. Your definitely only paying for island golf, and considering there 0 ocean views it’s kind of irrelevant. Highlight of the round is definitely the amount of nature you see. Lots of island life and even saw a good sized gator.

Pine Lakes - course was in great shape. For being less than a year old after the renovation it deserves 5 stars. Excited to come back next year to play it again.
